Which Robusto to Choose From?

Greetings all,

My father is in Cyprus visiting family and I suggested he pick up some robustos at the LCDH in the Larnaca airport on his way home (I suggested he also look for the RE Bolivar DC). I suggested he try the following:

1. R&J Short Churchill

2. Hoyo Epi # 2

3. Partagas Serie D.No 4

4. Bolivar Royal Corona

The staff at the store are very helpful and don't have a problem opening the boxes so I just suggested he open them and take a peek (appearance, construction, aroma etc)

I don't smoke many robustos so I don't know what year/box codes are smoking well from the list.

I don't think he can go too wrong with any of these since it seems like 07 boxes are smoking well from the various thread I've read. But, advice would be deeply appreciated from the FOH crew.

Personally, I like the RyJ Short Churchill A/T, and the Cohiba robusto.

I would go for the R&J Short Churchill and Partagas Serie D.No 4

I have not had the pleasure of a Cohiba Robusto yet (waiting 30 days for recent purchase) but from all I have read they are excellent.

Out of those the PSD #4 hands down.

Agree..Grab all of em. To me it's really hard to just pick out the best

Robusto.They all are very good right now.

Open a few boxes of each on the counter.

Look for a box with reddish shiny wrappers. Can be dark or light. In absece of reddish wrappers look for sheen and oil.Check the feel of the cigars from the best boxes. Check the weight in hand.

You may now have 2-3 boxes now in front of you.

Tell your dad to now take a good whiff of the aroma from each of the 2-3 boxes. The one which smells like a badly kept barnyard is the one to get.

The CoRo is a must. One of the most complex cigars I've ever had the pleasure of smoking.

That is probably the very best answer I have ever read when having the ability tochoose a Robusto from in stock Habanos at an LCDH. Typically they would be young cigars and the strong "Barnyard" odor will bring the best flavor.
