Taino Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 I was talking the other day with this know it all guy who gave me a class about cigars which I enjoyed very much, with my best dumb face on (never to be underestimated) But above all this little grasshopper acquired a question about Cohiba Maduros: - How or why on earth can someone tell they are completely made from tobacco aged for 5.5 years? Should I suspect he is sleeping with the master blender of the Partagas factory? Another Q nothing to do with what was stated above: When should we start seeing 2008 production boxes?

Mel Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Would not the only way to be sure in absolute terms be that you personally watch the leaves age every day for the whole period of time with security to assure that no substitution was allowed??;-) We either believe and trust what we are told or we do not. I expect your new master of instruction could not tell squat from looking at the cigars.
El Presidente Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 The wrapper was a project decided on by Habanos s.a in 2002 from memory. There was a deal of animosity from TABACUBA in relation to the project as a true Maduro cigar had not been produced previously and many felt it should not be a path gone down. It has turned out to be a great success story for Habanos s.a in terms of sales and $'s in the bank. Now the problem. A significant proportion of the "Maduro" wrapper leaf being used on the current Maduro 5's is not as dark as what one would consider to be "Maduro". Tabacuba argues that the term "maduro" means "ripe" and the wrapper meets that definition. Arguments have ensued but the "Lighter" wrapper is being used. I will try and run a side by side tasting of a lighter and darker Maduro 5 wrapper in the coming weeks.
