Seems as if I've been gravitating toward Upmanns lately.

It seems to me that while other marques may be more complex or fuller flavored (a significant generalization, I know), I haven't smoked an HU that wasn't completely satisfying in quite a while - and this includes some that could be considered too young to smoke.

Once I figure out what my cigar budget (which I'll end up completely ignoring, I'm sure) is for the year, I think that putting up more of these may be a focus for 2008.

Curious what y'alls thoughts are on the brand as a whole...

At first I didn't seem to "get" Upmanns, now I have come to love the clean, smooth tobacco taste, and what I think of as a creamy almond icing taste that can pop through. I have had some great aged Con #1s, Mag 46s, #2s, and Petit Coronas. I have not smoked many young Upmanns, I have some 06 Con #1s that were disappointing when I got them, may be worth revisiting.

There is a beautiful smoothness and subtlety about Upmanns, I find them relaxing.

I'm curious about people's experience with 06s and 07s.

It is between Bolivar and Upmann, alternating seasons it seems, as to which is my favorite.

I do not find them mild or "clean" as I read often, but good ones I find rather strong and complex. And with age they shine.

Not smoked enough of most of the range, but I have noticed that they become very good with age and are rather one-dimensional when fresh.

An aged Sir Winston is close to impossible to beat!

I am another for Sir Winston. With 5-7 years it is spectacular. I have fond memories of the Super Corona but again it was a cigar which needed 5 years.

From what I have sampled the last year the Upmann 2, Connie 1 and Sir Winston are my picks. I have had mixed results with the Mag 46....two steps forward...one step back.

Upmann is one of my favourite marcas. Love the flavour profile. Unfortunately I have recently picked up some no.2's from 2002 with construction problems which really ruins the experience. Generally though, the aged sticks have been great - especially the connie 1's. When times are better I'd like to try the Sir W's.

Right on, Tim. I'm with you. I have love the Sir Winstons and have grown to love the Mag46. Looking to try the Conn1 and others. I like the tubos cigars as well. Fine, clean, straight up tobacco across the marca.

I have yet to experience this, but based on a limited sampling I can say unequivocally that smoking them younger than that is a mistake. The Monarch (same size and reputedly the same blend from lesser quality tobacco) is a fine cigar and is approachable at a younger age in my experience.

H. Upmann #2 made me swear off Monte #2 for the piramide vitola

Mag 46 are excellent (though reports of newer ones are mixed.)

I love H. Upmann PC's and Connoisseur #1 with age.

Reglias are now 100% made by hand and should be a great bargain from 07.

I'm an H. Upmann fan.

Huge Upmann fan and agree that age is a must. The Sir Winston, Super Corona, and Conn 1 are wonderful smokes, but my favorite is the Lonsdale. My fav. lonnie when rolled properly, i.e. not a dowel.

I use to say that one of my favorite Corona Gordas was the Mag 46 (I also noticed that no one here mentioned this cigar). I know that from 01-03, I must have smoked through 10-12 boxed of them, then after 03, the flavor and quality in my opinion went straight to the crapper. It seamed to me that everyone liked them so that HSA just over produced them, never mind what the cigar tasted like. I have not had a Mag 46 in also a couple of years now, I wonder what they are tasting like these days?

Aged Sir Winston, PCs and No. 2s are just great IMO, and had some very good Connies.. I have really enjoyed many Mag. 46s flavor wise, but I don't recall having one over the years where the burn didn't run on me. It seems that, for 2001 and newer at least, I will expect burn problems before I light up most Upmanns.

I finally broke open a Nov 2006 Cab of Mag 46 last week. This example had no burn issues and was excellent to say the least. If the rest of the cab performs as well they should be stellar by 2010.

I am fairly big fan with the SW, Lonsdales, and Monarchs being my favorites. The only real complaint I have is all the above boxes (ranging from '98-'03) have had seriously tight draws on a number of sticks from each box.
