jeht Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Hate to hear this about the shorts. One of my favorites. I have two cabs, one from mar06 and another from oct06. The march was extremely good with the october not falling too far behind. The one 07' partagas I have had was the PSD4 from april. The flavors were muddled and uninspired. Sad
bassman Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Haven't really enjoyed these in a few years. A 2001 cab spoiled me. The recent ones have been rather bland. Perhaps I've just had bad luck with this cigar, but now I stocked up on RASCC for when I want a quick smoke.

I still have about half a cab of '04s that are pretty damned good, but I'm rationing them. When I'm in the mood for something short and sweet, it's RASCC!
Evo03 Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 That's a disappointing review. I've got a box from March 2007. But it's a different factory code, TMO. They're kinda spicy, and I'm enjoying them. I was wanting to order another box. but I guess I'll hold off.
Justinwzp Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Interesting review....I've actually never smoked a Party Short...... I always have several boxes of RASCC and Trini Reyes on hand when in the mood for something quick. I've alwayd heard good things about the Shorts though.....I'll get a box on order with my next purchase and hope for the best.
jaylax5 Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Interesting... I have a cab from that month (ABR 07) that is PTS factory... and I know of another cab of Shorts from that month (ABR 07) that is TMO factory. I am a little surprised to see 3 factory codes (PUT, PTS and TMO) for Parti Shorts of ABR 07. Anyone else think this is surprising? EDIT***it is TMO, not TMU.

We are assuming here that they are from different factories ;-) I have seen first hand different box codes within the same week from Upmann but they pertained to Monte 2's. Box codes are a highly kept secret known and accessed by only a few in HSA. I will explore this further in February so that I can gave a definitive answer.

El Presidente Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 Partagas Short PUT ABR 07 I am pretty sure that the Partags Short is a staple in many humidors. At its best it is a rich biscuit and dark coffee cigar with quality tobacco and occasionally some surprising power although generally it is a medium bodied cigar. It is another ideal morning coffee cigar and that is how I enjoyed it this Brisbane Monday morning…..black Merlo coffee….laptop and plenty of e-mails to plough through. There were some construction issues with Mid 06 Partagas Shorts which appear to have been rectified by Sept. Late 06 Partagas Shorts were sensational and I thought that after a little time in the wilderness they had come back to their best This April 07 example had nothing special about it. Well rolled, Colorado wrapper, siky to the touch. No hard or soft spots with a nice simple tobacco aroma at cold. Clipped the cap and the draw was good ( a little easy). Again just simple tobacco flavours on the lips. Fired up the foot and the Short came to life readily. Charred woody notes, a little sourness, medium bodied. The cigar is taking longer than I like to find rhythm. There is a weak coffee note on the palate which matches poorly with the slight sourness which reminds me of composting vegetal matter. Very woody. Overall a less than impressive opening but not bad enough to make me consider pitching it off the deck. By the first inch mark it had settled down. The sourness had retreated almost fully but still lingered on the back palate. Still a woody, weak coffee note wrapped in a medium body. No doubt very young but at the same time very disappointing. I have had plenty of young Partagas Shorts which made statements when young. This one was less of a statement …more of a surrender. I often use the terms “closed” or “muted” when it comes to cigars which have difficulty in showcasing flavours which you know are there in the background. I can’t even bring myself to say this cigar has true background flavours. It is merely burning away completely happy in a state of puro mediocrity. The second third is a small improvement on the first. If this was a larger format cigar I would have pitched it by now not wanting to put myself through an hour of blandness. Weak coffee persists with a wet wood note. Seriously piss weak cigar. Purge through the nose shows nothing. Sourness is building again. Still medium bodied and overall going nowhere fast. The final third is as crappy as the first two thirds. I am more annoyed than anything else. So much competition in this format from seriously good cigars. I have tried them all and tried them all young and this Partagas Short has set new benchmarks in mediocrity. No wonder that Habanos lovers cry at the state if consistency in some cigars. I have had Feb/Mar 07 Partagas Shorts which were as good as any Cohiba Siglo 1 or Trini Reyes I have tried. An yet, here we are, another box code …a mere one month later…and this example sucks at my enthusiasm like a parasite tick. Good construction, lacking in flavour and what flavour it has is primarily based around fermenting vegetal matter. I may be overly hard in marking this cigar but when you have seen it at its best this experience is just a mind numbing blow. It may age gracefully but it has shown no evidence that it has the intensity of quality to do so. In retrospect I should have pitched it early and saved myself the experience. 82/100 2/6 Smokerings.
