Tebinium Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 I am thinking of building a (LARGE) humidor out of one of the oriental chests you can pick up cheap. They are lined with a camphor(?) type wood that I can remove easily. However, I don't know anything about the availabilty of spanish cedar sheets in Australia. If anyone has built a humidor previously, then your insights and info would be very welcome!
cvm4 Posted September 25, 2005 Posted September 25, 2005 I just used the sheet in my boxes to line my cooler. I'm sure Rob has plenty of them sheets ;-)

Try this. I have never endeavored to build my own humi but these places sell what you need. http://www.thewoodbox.com/data/wood/spcedarinfo.htm http://www.woodcraft.com/family.aspx?familyid=680 Hope this will help.
ilikecigars Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 other then the fact that you may simply want too build your own as it will be unique and something you built...dont plan on saving money this route as it is cheaper to buy one built...that said theres many sites that sell ceder and mahogany woods online jst do a search.
habanablue Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 A mate was previously planning to build me a humi and sourced some from a timber yard...not cheap but ring around a few places. If not I'm sure they can order it in for you!
El Presidente Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 In Australia you are better off purchasing Mahoggany Veneer and lining your humidor with that. Mahoggany is more readily available and has been used in many of the great humidors on history. Just ensure the Mahoganny is raw and untreated. We have plenty of cigar box inserts if that helps....but it may end up looking like a patchwork quilt ;-)
Tebinium Posted September 26, 2005 Author Posted September 26, 2005 The look on the inside doesn't worry me. If you want to send me the inserts I would be EXTREMELY grateful!! I can use any extras to make dividers, etc. I will, of course, pay for the postage and handling. If you want, and you don't need them, you could send me the actual empty boxes. Then I can use them to sort and store the cigars, as well as use the liners to do the inside and make the dividers and shelves! Might help you clear some storage space ;-) My e-mail address is in my registration if you need to send me any details. The chest will be the size of a medium coffee table.
