Cam Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 "On a cold winter morning a cigar fortifies the soul." Stendhal above is one of my favourite cigar quotes and below is a story, I thought this would be a bit of a change from normal discussion. Please everyone take the time to note down something memorable, or even just a quote I first arrived in France at the beginning of last year, where we had a house in a small village called Rompon in Ardeche. I knew nobody, and living in such a distant land with little knowledge of the local language or custom made it even harder. I sat out on the back porch one morning, a cool -7 degree wind swept over the mountains, and through the south of this amazing land. I lit up my favourite cigar a monte 2, a friendly neighbour spotted me and wandered over to welcome me with a bottle of Chateau- neuf du pape. We shared a cigar, a few laughs and began a friendship which will last forever. A cigar is truly something which breaks all barriers. At times nothing means more to me than sitting down surrounded by buddies smoking a cigar, even in silence. (i'll upload some photos of the house later) Cam -

jwm8592 Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Attended Cigars Int'l "Cigarfest 2007" this past May, and while my friends & I were tailgating in the parking lot we met some guys from New Jeresy who had just pulled up next to us. We shared cigars, Mojito's and drinks, and stories through out the day and night. Even though we live 10 hours apart we have already made plans to meet up again next year at the event. Its not the Cigarfest, its the people that make the event. Cigars bring people together, period!

Colt45 Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Here's one I posted on another thread a couple of years ago: A few weeks back, I had a Saturday to myself, so I took a road trip to a place that I knew allowed smoking on the lawn area of their outdoor bar. While ordering my drink, I double checked to see that they still allowed smoking, and a gentleman next to me asked what I was smoking. I got my drink and offered him a cigar. He was there with a lovely woman, also a smoker, and they chose a PLPC to share. We took our drinks and cigars (I had a VR Unicos) to a couple of lawn tables. We shared a great day, interesting conversation, and a beautiful view of the Atlantic ocean. I still remember that day quite vividly.
smokum Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 "Nothing about a Good Cigar"...gents this is the caption on an artprint I have in my little cabin in the woods..where quiet and solitude bring out the best in a cigar. I have been trying to find out about this art print for years. It was in the house when I bought it...I believe it is of German origin..next time I go up I will take a pic. Its a photo of a little neatly dressed boy puffing on a cigar...many visitors have commented on it and I would like to find a copy for a good friend.

This would have established my identity." -- Charles Dickens "I am done - pay the bills and get me a cigar." -- William Makepeace Thackeray, Vanity Fair

SBARREL Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 My wife and I took a cruise about 6 months ago, and on the first night I found out there was a cigar aficionado time from 9 to 1:00am.in the library. The first night I met two people we all had a great time, by the time the cruise was over (8 days later) we were up to 20 people all telling stories on what we liked and how we started. Cigars do get people talking and good conversions happen.
Cam Posted November 7, 2007 Author Posted November 7, 2007 exactly, that's what's so special about cigars. The positives outweigh the negatives in social situations. I love cigars, noone can take that away.
