jaylax5 Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Patrick, Sorry, I don't know about the loud noise issue, but congrats on your new humi...it's outstanding! As it has been said many times before..."now fill'er up" :-P :-D
mgillett Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Very nice work. That guy makes some good furniture. I would love to know if someone in Australia made these humi's. Have previously scoured the 'net for a local manufacturer but come up with nothing. Perhaps another Czar project. Sorry, got nothing on the noise issue.
El Presidente Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Looks great Patrick Not sure on the noise but no doubt Bob can help you. Re Australia....with our dollar so high it is worthwhile ordering one and having it airfreighted. Freight costs should only amount to the $200 USD level. There are no manufacturers in Australia. We have tried (and failed) to get one off the ground here. At the end of the day the compnentry you need is really only available in the US (electronic temp and humidity control). It can be built but the costs are the same as Bobs unit imported. Keep in mind the difference in voltage. Some adjustments or extra purchase of a converter will be required.

KB24 Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 Fixed the problem last night with Bob's assistance bobsled. The fan guard was on too tight. I just added the water this morning after letting the temp level out at 68 deg. Will probably be adding the cigars tomorrow afternoon when the humidity hits 65%.
smokum Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Hard to do but you may want to wait a little longer and let the whole cabinet equalize in both humidity and temp...
Guest cohiba Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Nice humidor !!! I have the same one with different figured woods. I have had mine for over a year now. It took a good six months or so to completly get it "stable". I live north of you in Santa Cruz, this might have promoted towards keeping the humidity up too high, not sure. I too had all my boxes in coolers, i feel they were over humidified, like your problem as well. The best thing i did was but bags of humidity beads on each shelf, after several months everything is perfect. I dont even keep very much water in the unit. When i add water the humidity just jumps too high. The beads are the best thing ever for my situation. Knowing that your boxes came out of coolers you might want to use water in the reservoir to season it, then remove the water and let the ambiant moistur from your boxes level off the unit. Then handle the humidity after it all gets stable. Just sharing my experience, hope it helps !!!! enjoy........ Stan
greenpimp Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 That's a beauty. I have an end table from Bob. I live on the Central Coast, and high humidity tends to be my nemesis more than lower. I ended up taking the whole water system out of my cabinet after a few months and going with silica. Once that cabinet gets "trained," over or under your desired humidity level, look out, cause it wants to be there for a long time. My suggestion would also be to take it easy on adding the water at first.
jwm8592 Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Hey KB24, thats absolutely beautiful:yes:. I also would be very interested in seeing it packed full. Few questions, is the "Plus" in the name make it distinct from other boxes, or is their a model #? Would also be curious to know when you send the pics after loading it up, how many boxes you'll have in it at that time, and what you believe to be the capicity. I know the mfg. gives a capacity but with all cigar boxes being of different sizes, I'd rather hear it from a customer, than the the retailer. Enjoy your weekend!! thx, john
The Wise Old owl Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Here's a link to the Aristocrat site, I've had mine ( a mini ) for maybe 4 months and I absolutely love it. I can't imagine anyone not being completely satisfied with one, if I lived in Australia I'd talk to Bob about shipping options... It's worth it to have the best! http://www.aristocrathumidors.com/cabinetindex.html
KB24 Posted October 20, 2007 Author Posted October 20, 2007 So After 1 full day plugged in and 15 hours with water in the humidification reservoir, the Aristo has reached the preset 68deg and 65%. I am still going to give it another day to let the humidity continue to season the wood. Should be putting the cigars in tomorrow afternoon and will have some more pics. -Patrick
wp2 Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Very nice Patrick, but I would expect nothing less from Bob. Just the right amount of room for me (right now, LOL). My mini is packed tight & my wine coolerdor is as well. Gotta order more from this weeks sale, though.
smokum Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Just to add my .02 on keeping the temp/humidity levels constant here is what I have found works for me. It seems like humidity likes to creep to higher than acceptable levels due to the lower temp the CC's need to be kept. I aim for 62F and 65%rh. I have to keep 3 tubs of Damp Rid in the box to keep the humidity from rising higher than 65%. If left like this it will pull down to 60% which is too low for me. So I put the humidifier in set to 65% and let the Damp Rid work on the high side...when it starts going too low the humidifier kicks in. Its a balancing act but it works. Once winter and drier air kicks in here in Chicago I will watch it and see if I need to re-adjust. Go real easy on the humidification to start . In fact I would not plug it in until after you load it. The cigars themselves will add humidity to the box starting out.Especially if they are over humidified in the box they are coming from. Watch it for a few weeks and see where it wants to go and then adjust accordingly.
anacostiakat Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Very nice Patrick. Congratulations! I have an Aristocrat End Table unit that I have had a couple years now. It is a beautiful piece of work. I waited 2 or 3 days before I put anything in mine if I remember right.
KB24 Posted October 20, 2007 Author Posted October 20, 2007 Seems like everyone has different opinions on these things. Some say dont use the humidifcation device, others say use it, other say this and that. I am gonna go by Bob's directions which say to activate both the cooling and the humidification for the first couple days to season it. So far with no cigars in there I am stable at the preset 65%/68deg. When I add the cigars I am pretty sure the humidity will drop because my boxes have been out of a humidor now for about 5 weeks with only a pound of 65% beads full charged sitting amongst them. After a few days or weeks it will hopefully stabilize back to the preset. I will probably add the cigars tomorrow as I was told that the wood on the inside needed about 2 days to stabilize with the newly added humidity. I will jjust cross obsticles as they come but this thing is good for now.
smokum Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Thats a good way to handle it !! Half the fun of it is sticking your head in there pretending to check it every hour ! :-D

soltino Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 » Problem fixed, the fan guard was on too tight and was hitting the fan!!! That is one beautiful piece of furniture you have there KB24, you should be very proud :-) Definitely money well spent. Now that the initial fan problem has been fixed, how loud is the unit in general? Do you ever notice it whirring away, or does the fan just kick in occasionally?
KB24 Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 So I was so excited that I immedialy ripped open the box and plugged everything in so the coolling process can begin. I hope everyone enjoys and I will post some updated once I get my boxes in there. I do have a question for anyone who has an Aristocrat. When you first plugged everything in and plugged it in to the wall unit and it clicked on, was it very loud? Is it still loud? Does the loud noice like a jack hammer go away or have I already have issues? Please let me know. Thanks!! -Patrick
