Smash the Zippopotamus!!!. Don´t forget to post the pics. The best lighters I have had is Prometheus and Dupont XtenD so far. Best cutters: Xikar. Either Punch or Teardrop Guillotine. made of Solingen steel. Period:-)

My selection from your list of options...beat the crap out of it with a hammer.

And then...send photos of the carnage to Zippo along with a letter and a printout of all the replies you got on this thread.

Perhaps that will get R&Ds attention.

I got one of these too as had so little choice of lighters and needed one desperately.

Agree that it is a piece of **** and amazing how this got past QA if there was any QA at all would surprise me.

But after failing to lite 19 of 20 attempts have finally worked out how to lite it each time.

Hard to explain but u must roll ur finger off the wheel then down onto the plunger and hold. The problem with these lighters is not the flint creating a spark but more of the timing of the spark and gas release. The plunger u depress down on after flicking the flint wheel is out of sync and thus can not ignite. Maybe am not correct but played around with this and finally now can light it every time...

Even thou can get this working it is still a piece of **** of a lighter.

I submitted my complaint to Zippo but obviously they get the same complaints so many times they have decided to ignore my pleas for ditching this piece of rubbish.

Sorry to hear about your Zippo. The best lighter investment I've ever had was the St. Dupont Xtend. I love this thing it works every time! I never leave home without it!!!!
