Mark Twain Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Partagas Lonsdale ‘00 This Lonsdale came out of a cabinet of 50 cigars. It has a beautiful wrapper and an enticing pre-light smell. I’ve had several disappointments with 2000 wrappers burning funky and ruining the smoking experience. I expected nothing less from this, however, I have smoked a half dozen of these so far and I’ve found them to be incredible. I’ve had no construction problems and no burn issues at all. I’ve had to rethink my prejudice against 2000 Habanos based upon the performance from this cabinet. This Lonsdale was a powerhouse performer. The smoke carried the extremely dense flavor of rich coffee and the body of the cigar was exceptionally full. I would not want to smoke one of these young. I found the rich flavor and full body complementary of one another. This created a fairly unique smoking experience for a Cuban cigar. I’ve smoked through a box of R&J Cazadores and a cabinet of Cohiba Siglo Is and I can say that this Partagas Lonsdale was stronger with more intense flavor and a more defined finish, although this intensity took away some complexity. I only wonder if I can keep my hands off them long enough to age them for another year.:-D
shrink Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 I would not want to smoke one of these young. Very thoughtful review, and nice pix, MT! No, you wouldn't want to smoke these young. They must age, in order to balance and harmonize the various elements. The Party lonsdale (RIP) wasn't blended to be strongest Partagas, or the most complex. It was blended to provide what I call the "quintessential Partagas experience": a long, slow smoke, with a smaller ring guage that uniquely focuses the classic woody, leathery, and spicy Partagas flavor profile. Very different from a similar vitola, the Serie du Connoisseur No. 1
Loki Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 Nice review. One of my favs. I'm 2/3 the way through a 1999 cab of 50. They are rich and possess a good balance of flavor throughout the stick. I've nothing to judge it against as I have never had a young one.
El Presidente Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 God I need a cigar......... Great review!
Moglman Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 This is good news, as my 2000 cab are tent pegs. I'm not happy at all about it. Need to dry box just to get what I consider a very tight draw.
fugwumpy Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 Nice review Pardon if this is a bit off topic, but did you make that ashtray?
bassman Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 Well done! One of my 3 favorite cigars- and one of the few 2000s that I've enjoyed.
jfields Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Nice review and pictures Marc. I still have to get me one of those ashtrays. BTW... Where's the pictures with your legs in it?
MaytagMan Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Thanks for the great review and pics!!!
