Partagas Lusitania – box code MRB DIC06

Vitola – Prominente

Size – ring 49 x 7 5/8”

First I’ll preface this by stating I’m a newbie and have only been enjoying this hobby / obsession for about a year, after a trip to Cuba. The only collecting I have done in the past was fine wines, which was long ago but I have discovered the incredible similarities between the grape and the leaf being turned into works of wonderment and joy.

This is my first serious attempt to share a review and is based on only the second of this cigar from a box a friend purchased for me while in Cuba this past Spring.

The wrapper was very light in color probably, Claro? The picture I took wouldn't upload. The draw at cold was perfect in my opinion and didn’t have any deep flavor other then some subtle sweetness and tobacco. The weight of the cigar felt light in my hand given it’s size but as I said the draw was perfect.

Upon lighting, it was strong with pepper and some cedar as I have found with many of the other Partagas cigars I have been enjoying. After the first inch the heavy pepper began to subside and gave way to some subtle stewed fruit and more cedar. The smoke is full and I would say medium in strength and oh so Smooth. At two inches there was sweetness added to the pepper and it was all quite creamy and rich in flavor with leather now a definite part of the ensemble.

Second third, the Lusitania continues to change, now with more spice coming through, added to it with hints of chocolate, then a sort of herbal creaminess shows up out of nowhere and still smooth as hell. The flavor is building as I get to the last third, I have no hope of getting anywhere in the book I’m trying to read as I’m out on the patio.

Last third the flavor’s very full with spice, leather and hints of licorice cropping in. At about 1 ½ inches I purged the smoke as I felt it might be getting a little rough and then it continued smoothly.

The burn was excellent throughout the two hours. I would rate it 90/100.

One hell of a first review :ok:

Great to see a Dic 06 Lusitania showing such style. The re-appearance of spice is a welcome return for a cigar which has suffered from some inconsistancy over the past couple of years. In the DC post you will note a wide array of decsriptions from flavour laden to bordering on insipid. The Lusitania deserves to be a Habanos benchmark cigar.

Fantastic review. I love my 06 box. I have about 8 more, since I keep going to them when I have the time to smoke one.

The first one of these I had lasted about 2:45, and I was looking for a toothpick to hold it. Started my love affair with these.

When these are gone, I'll be getting more, that's for sure.
