nugget Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 I have never been disappointed with a Monte as much as now. I am on the verge of ditching it and only half way through. It's in great condition, burning evenly and has a good draw, I can't fault the cigar except for the horrid taste. As I write it's now extinguishing and will lay to rest. I have read many bad reviews on some of the LE Monte's but have always disagreed with then and have found them to be amazing. As for the D though, it only my first and I have two boxes of them, I hope they get better. Any other similar experiences?
Claudius Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 I smoked a box of these a year ago and loved them (although I'm generally not a Montecristo fan). Bought several to age. SVF MAY 05. At a dealer's, I saw a stash of Monte D FJN JUN 05 (or something similar, not the initial Partagas code). They smelled and looked very different (less good). IIRC I smoked one and didnt like it much. I think they made a third run of them, but I'm not sure. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that whether or not you like the D might also depend on which run it's from as I found them quite dissimilar.
anacostiakat Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 I have a box of these somewhere. I need to check da date. :-D
jdbrown Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Interesting that I looked at mine this morning. Set them aside and will be giving them away. I could not bring myself to take money for these! Worst EL I have encountered.
bassman Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Smoked one of these just a couple days ago. Great draw & construction And nice flavor, but milder than I was expecting. Personally, I much prefer the 06 Monte #1s, which to me seem stronger & earthier in taste.

El Presidente Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 I have had plenty that are both good and indifferent. It seems to me your "D" has TDWS......Thick Dark Wrapper Syndrome. Leads to a shithouse bitterness and complete loss of balance within the cigar. Nugget, take one out of your magnificent cabinet humidor....place it on the porch/verandah and try it Sunday night. Report back if you can ;-)

It's out and waiting. Your right in your description there was a lot of bitterness. Get back to you Sunday night. PS. I will leave the other box alone for the moment and keep to the same batch. Cheers

I will try one from the other box next week and see if there is a difference. :-(

What? Do you guys have some regional night-crawling spirit that changes a crapola cigar into a better one?... as your Pauline would have said: "please explain"...
Stalebread Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Based on several singles that I smoked and liked, I bought a box of these. Have not taken any out of it as of yet. Just went to check -- the wrappers don't seem to be too dark. Code is Mar 05. Guess I'll have to try one pretty soon just to see . . .
