anacostiakat Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Well the first day of summer was approaching and I thought I would pick something up to surprise the espousa. :-D So on the recommendation of my local beverage agent about a week ago I picked up a bottle of Pallini Limoncello. I mixed the wife a vodka, limoncello and diet 7Up last Friday as her usual Friday drink is a vodka and diet 7Up. She liked it a little too much for her own good.
Freefallguy Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 A few years back I had dinner with a friend at Limoncello’s in North Boston. http://www.weseatyou.com/restaurants/692/old%20site/main.asp As my entrée I had Black Squid Ink Fettucine Pasta with Maine Lobster Meat. Amazing. Afterwards, they served a glass of their homemade Limoncello with a single coffee bean in it. It was excellent, as well as an arse kicker.
jgros001 Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 that's great. I love limoncello...straight up. Another is orangecello.....put it on some orange sherbert, mmmmm
Colt45 Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 I enjoy limoncello as well, though some brands are harsher than others. Freefall, I agree - the homemade limoncello at Limoncello in Boston's North End is very good. I thought it quite smooth in comparison to some stuff I've bought.
El Presidente Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 » She liked it a little too much for her own good. Ah......Women and alcohol....when they start the slippery slope of one too many...there is no return
CelticBasque Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Has anyone tried Caravella Limoncello? If so, would you recommend it or no?

DoubleDD Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Here is my recipe for limoncello. I enjoy this as a palate cleanser after a rich dinner. 10 lemons 1 (750-ml) bottle vodka, Smirnoff or better. 3 1/2 cups water 2 1/2 cups sugar Using a micro plane gently plane the yellow layer of peel off the entire lemon, all 10. Be careful not to get any of the pith or white. Take the pile of yellow peels and place it into the bottle of vodka and let it sit. I usually let it sit for 2 weeks at a minimum. The lemon zest flavor will infuse with the vodka. After completely infused, mix the water and sugar together in a medium saucepan on the stove. Do not boil the mixture but bring it right up to the point of boil, mixing occasionally as to totally melt the sugar. Remove it from the heat and let it cool to room temperature. Strain the vodka in the smallest strainer you can find to remove the zest. I usually do this 2-3 times to remove most of the zest. When complete, add the simple syrup (sugar and water solution) to the lemon infused portion. I usually do this in a 1.75 L that I've emptied and rinsed and one that formerly held vodka. Be sure to mix thoroughly. Once mixed you can divide it into whatever portions you want. I usually divide it into two 750 ml bottles. Place the bottles into the freezer to chill. After about 4 hrs you are ready to enjoy. It's pretty simple and always tastes great, especially if you use top shelf vodka. Enjoy! 1
NJP Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Family friends get us Limoncello from the Nardini family. The Grappa is epic but the limoncello is grouse. On a hot day for desert pour some over vanilla ice cream for the little lady it's magic.
ptrthgr8 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 A friend in NYC sent me a bottle of some brand several years ago - 10 years maybe? I don't recall the brand, but he and his family were very Italian (we assumed he was in the Witness Protection Program LOL) and he said it was the same that he remembered drinking when he was growing up in NYC. It seemed like good quality stuff to me, but it was just too sweet for my liking. But, my god, how my wifey loved it. Said it was like candy. She probably could have polished off the entire bottle by her self. LOL Cheers, ~ Greg ~
