El Presidente Posted March 23, 2005 Share Posted March 23, 2005 The 4 day Easter weekend at my place is a family affair. Excluding the normal religious events, it is a time of the extended family visiting my ponderosa for a series of BBQ's, fine wines and fine cigars with the traditional front paddock afternoon cricket game. I will attempt again to slow cook a whole duck on the BBQ. I baste the duck with secret recipy of Spanish Olive Oil, tarragon, rosemary and oyster sauce. The stuffing is Quince and pine nuts. The starting cigar this year will be a La Gloria Cubana Medaille de Or No 1 accompanied by a fine Rockfords Sparkling Shiraz. I will then move onto a Cohiba Sublime and and some excellent Curley Flat 2002 Pino Noir. This is where I got into trouble last year (and I am reminded...every year prior). While throwing myself into the "spirit" of the day and enjoying the company of my brothers and brother inlaws...I forgot about the duck until I noticed the BBq window aglow in flame resembling a scene of the movie "Towering Inferno". Needless to say, the duck now resembled a scorched quail. Brothers can be unnecessarily cruel. The wife and kids were not a great deal better Being a naturally quick thinker I made a duck salad with what I could salvage. There was a lot of salad left over. After a few bottles of wine our afternoon cricket games can get a little bit "willing". I have been banned from this years game (but permitted to be umpire) after some unsavoury incidents last year involving head high bowling at relatives who should have known better than to criticise the duck;-). All in all a memorable day for all involved. Happy Easter everyone. May your time with family be special, and ....a time to remember fondly in years to come. I think he's a big tease. ;-) j/k Just like Christmas making the rounds to the in-laws (2 sets) and my moms. Hope the weather is nice so I can get in some DC's while at the in-laws.
