TR Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Probably one of the few cigars I can actually see the potential in aging......I know many have poo pooed this cigar, but this has real promise...just give it some time........ what is everyone else thinking of these???
TR Posted September 15, 2006 Author Posted September 15, 2006 I should add...long term aging.....not just aging...
phxkev Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I got a box of the Monte Robusto LE 2006. Smoked two. Put the rest away.

I agree with you TR. This is one cigar where in 2007/8 everyone will be trying to locate a box. I shook my head when I saw the initial reviews (elsewhere) for these. I think it is unfair on any cigar to smoke and review one withinn 30-60 days of receiving it. Much like the R&J Short Churchills which also received a bollocking in reviews initially, these were very wet upon release.
hueynova Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Am presently grooving on some 2003 Monte LE's...so a couple years should be in order for the 2006's to get to that "special place".
Moglman Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I have a box tucked away I doubt wil se the light of day until 2008 or there abouts. I don't regret getting the box now.

I have smelled a box at a dealer; it smelled like MENTHOL. I was so surprised I asked them to smell it, too, and they confirmed. They say they should be smoked in 5 years time (but bought now LOL). They might be right. Should have bought a box. Will do soon while they are still easy to be found from the first release.

Tried another Monday. The flavour charachteristics as so very unlike Montecristo at this stage. Powerfull, lot's of pepper not too much of a hint of cocoa or cream. Potential yes. I would like to re-assess after six months. Could become a classic....could become a dud. I hate ugly ducklings......I want my swan now

bassman Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 Incredibly strong & earthy cigars. Try one or two, then don't touch them for a couple years.
Tom Bolivar Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 » Incredibly strong & earthy cigars. Try one or two, then don't touch them » for a couple years. After all if they where made along the line of the first release from 2001 that's exactly how they should be. The ones from 2001 where really not a pleasure to smoke in the first year. But I haven't tried one from the 2006 release. I'll wait a few years to try one of the singles I have.
gersonmorelli Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 » The ones from 2001 where really not a » pleasure to smoke in the first year. I'll second that, I didn't like them when I split a box with a friend back in early 2002, so I gave most of them away as gifts to friends and family. I smoked my last one earlier this year and really enjoyed... :-( Actually IMO, they weren't "smokeable" for the first couple of years.
