El Presidente Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 I have a mate Mac Woolcock who will be in NY with his family for 5 days. He is looking for some recommendations for the best of the best ***** (5 star) dining experiences. Money no object. Food and experience just need to be superlative. Any recommendations (Restaurant Names and details if possible).
connoiseur29 Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Le Bernardin (french): http://le-bernardin.com/ Masa (japanese): http://masanyc.com/ Oceana (seafood): http://www.oceanarestaurant.com/ Ammos (the greek word for sand) new york (greek) http://www.ammosnewyork.com/ammosnyc.html Uncle Jack's Steakhouse (they used to have humidors and cigar smoking before that indoor smoking ban) http://www.unclejacks.com/newyorkcityresta...ewyorkcity.html I can't help it, but if he has to have amazing new york pizza for a snack, check out John's of Bleeker in Greenwich village (cash only). It's just a pizzeria, but the pizza is probably the best in the city and I have been to many of them http://www.johnsofbleeckerstreet.com/ I would suggest looking into these. Only great experiences waiting to be had at these establishments.
Guest mr. snappy Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 I second: La Bernadin (seafood) (Nearly everyone agrees this is the best in NYC right now) - 155 W. 51st St., New York, NY 10019 between Sixth and Seventh Aves. 212-554-1515; and Masa (sushi) - 10 Columbus Circle, 4fl, New York, NY 10019 at 59th St. 212-823-9800 Also, for steak: Peter Luger Steakhouse (voted #1 in NY every year) -- http://www.peterluger.com/ ; and Spark's Steakhouse - www.sparkssteakhouse.com/ Per Se (New French) - 10 Columbus Circle (212-823-9335). Daniel (French) - 60 E. 65th St., New York, NY 10021 between Park and Madison Aves. 212-288-0033 Also to consider: Gramercy Tavern (American Traditional; seems to be losing it's appeal) - 42 E. 20th St., New York, NY 10003 between Broadway and Park Ave. South 212-477-0777 Gotham Bar & Grill (American) - 12 E. 12th St., New York, NY 10003 between University Pl. and Fifth Ave. Babbo (Italian) - (212)777-0303 - 110 Waverly Place, at the northwest corner of Washington Square Park in New York's Greenwich Village Nobu (Sushi) - Many adherents; but many say there is better sushi in NY (I can't remember the name, but it's near Nobu) Jean Georges (Modern French) - (212) 299-3900; 1 Central Park West, New York NY 10023. Union Square Cafe - www.unionsquarecafe.com/ Good luch getting in to any of these:-)
Well Armed Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Del Friscos Steakhouse Double Eagle Steakhouse. Google it.
hueynova Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 » I second: » » » » » Also, for steak: Peter Luger Steakhouse (voted #1 in NY every » year) -- http://www.peterluger.com/ ; and » Spark's Steakhouse - www.sparkssteakhouse.com/ » I have to second Peter Lugers. These guys dont mess around, and age their own beef. Go only if everyone wants steak (although a few years ago they did finally add lobster to the menu). Only cash or Peter Lugers Credit Card are accepted. Sparks isnt bad either. And as connoiseur mentioned, Johns for pizza is fantastic. Another great NY experience, IMHO, is McSorely's, where you buy a pair of beers at a time (one of the only places you can get McSorelys beer on tap), and they have the hottest mustard youve ever had in your life on every table. Get the crackers and cheese plate, add a touch of the mustard, a few mugs of beer, and youve got the best lunch in town, though perhaps not the most glamorous. They've been there over 140 years, so they must be doing something right. (7th Street between 2nd and 3rd)
connoiseur29 Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Peter Lugers is great, though I have only been to the one on Long Island. I've been to Daniel as well and it is excellent, but you get an occasional hint of stuck up french mentality. If they know you, you're fine, if they don't, roll the dice, it might be great but not phenomenal.
manny816 Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 http://www.frenchlaundry.com/perse/perse.htm You won't be disappointed!!
jseeds Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Peter Lugers in Williamsburg, absolutely. Would also recommend Allioli, also in Williamsburg for the best Tapas in town imho.
actionmail Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Peter Luger is very good for steak, but his chef left the Brooklyn Steakhouse, and opened Mark Joseph, which is consistently rated the best in the world, its at peck slip station, at the south street seaport, in Manhattan and is the top rated Zagat in NYC you will never have steak like this anywhere Best Northern Italian, Due, third avenue and 80th street try the contadina Best Pastrami sandwhich or the best hotdog , a must try for lunch, at Katz's Delicatessen Houston Street do not miss this one!!!!!!!!!! if you do you will be very sorry and dont forgeet the grilled garlic Polish sausage Knobelwurst, it is truly superior Best Dim Sum Pings on Mott Street until 4pm sat and sun, or evergreen on 68th and 2nd ave Peking duck at Peking Duck House 53rd between 2nd and 3rd aves is the best also try Olives the Todd English resturant on Union square for med food As well Per se at Time Warner Center Best Pizza, (it was invented here, in the late 1800's, the hot slice that is) Try Lombardis coal oven pizza, on spring street in Little Italy this pizza over 100 years old is a NY Treasure!
