I have noticed their are 2 different kinds of bands for these.

1. That says something like "finest selected tobacco"

2. Just a standard Upmann band

What is the difference? Is this a market specific band? Is the box still a varnished one with the special slide clasp ( i think you call it that) ? Is there a quality difference?

I have a couple from Czar that is just a Upmann band. Havent tried one yet but going to soon. Will post a review when i do.

I have a box from '00 with the plain bands. I don't know when they started

using the "new" bands - I'm sure someone will give a definative answer.

I'm sorry that I can't answer your question

but I also noticed that Montecristo bands have changed since abck in '01 and '02.

The new band is shiny and a little lighter/faded whereas the older one is satin and darker brown.

anyone knowwhen this change took place?

The cigars are the same. The plain Upmann bands were introduced in 2000 from memory. Boxes (varnished with clasp) are the same.
