Guest boss hogg Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Hi all/G'day, I am flying to Sydney from LA and will be arriving early on a Monday morning. I take a flight to Brisbane that night. All told, it's about 21 hours from Washington, DC to Sydney. Better load up the MP3 player, eh? I was wondering if any of you could recommend an affordable, clean hotel where I can shower, nap, freshen up, etc before I spend a few hours touring Sydney/harbor area. (OK, no "it's fun to stay at the YMCA" barbs - I just did in Germany :-D ) Any restaurant/general area recommendations would be welcome. Thanks!
Ben Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Metro Hotel on Pitt is one I use in Sydney quite a bit. Cheap'ish at around 120 USD a night. Centrally located with everything you'd want. http://www.metrohotels.com.au/sydneyhotels/pitt/ Restaurant definately Kingsley's which is within walking distance of the Hotel. As a bonus you can have a smoke after your meal. A rare civilised establishment in Sydney. http://www.kingsleyssteak.com.au/

The big question is why are you spending so little time in Australia's greatest city and instead are heading north to those inbreds who despite their inadequacies have allowed one member of their fraternity to create the best Aussie cigar forum there is? if you are coming back to the real city for more than a day or so get in touch for a smoke or three! cheers and have fun!
Guest boss hogg Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Good question- why am I staying so little in SYD? United had a return flight from the US East Coast for US$865, and I had to cram in meetings with prospective and existing AU importers, none of which are currently in SYD. other customer is in Melbourne. It's a bit of a scouting trip and I hope to bring Mrs. Hogg once the inbound bambino is old enough to be left with the inlaws. Thanks!
Guest boss hogg Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 Hey what about this place, which I found on Lonely Planet? :-P AUTHOR EXPERIENCE You're in the heart of Sydney's 'shop till you drop' demographic, so you may as well parade up and down Oxford St. When night falls, you're in the heart of *** Sydney, so you may as well parade around Taylor Square with your new threads. Or wander into verdant Centennial Park if none of the above appeal. ===================================== Not sure that I'd want to wander into a park in the heart of *** Sydney!
