I have very little patience. That's why I ALWAYS start smoking my "new stuff" the day I get 'em! Fortunately, having a sizable inventory forces me to age some! :)

Everyone agrees that this cigar needs time. Lots of time. I've got a box from early '05 that I'm aging right now---but having smoked a few---I know they are not "ready."

Other PSD4's I've smoked have always left me thinking--"Gee--what on earth is all the fuss about?"

Truth be told; they too were probably just not ready.

So last night I do some "digging." Alas! A PSD4 from a long-ago trade! Heck---this could have THREE years on it!! I should have snapped a picture of it as it was really gorgeous---all shiny and dark with its red band of courage.

Okay--so the flame hits it and BAM!! THIS IS WHAT ALL THE FUSS IS ABOUT!! :yum:

Talk about "candy." Holy cow. The smoke was as smooth as silk. These wonderful "Partagas" flavors mesmorize my pallate. I don't want this to stop!! The draw was perfect, the burn was perfect---and this cigar was definitely deserving of the word "PERFECT."

I might have to pick up another box to savor some five years from now.

I'm still sort of giddy over this smoke. Incredible.

After 2 years they are delicious. I had 1 yesturday from 2000 box on way home from work. It tasted like marachino cherries and candy. MMMMMMM Goood

You are right shoot, this cigar needs age and is a bomb... bad news for us with anxiety syndrome:-( , but patience is very well rewarded.

The PSD4 seems to be very hit or miss for me. When they are good they are the chronic. Otherwise they are flat. I put an 03 box into deep storage long ago and I will open them in 2010 and maybe they will all be good by then. If not, I will swear off the D4s for good and stick with RASS for the rest of my life.

I have smoked hundreds of PSD4's, and I have NEVER had a bad one. I'll admit, some have been better than others. The trick is to smoke 'em very young (typically within six months of boxing), or put 'em away for a couple years. I just recently started sampling a MAR04 box, and it is ready to rock. Sometimes I'm not sure which I prefer... a "freshie" all full of pepper and twang, or an aged one, smooth with deep flavors of wood and spices. My go-to cigar, for sure.

ROFL, that's ridiculous. Young PSD4's are one of the most inconsistent vitola around.

Glad to know there is hope for my '05 box. smoked one afew weeks after i got it, and didn't get the fuss either. But I figured they needed time.

Lol, maybe 1 or 2 right.. :-D

I have half a box from 04 and boy are they awesome.

I also agree. About a month ago I dug out one out that I purchased at the LCDH in Greece (01) and it was fabulous. I'm glad that it had 2 more friends.

They just sneak up and bash you on the head.

It is what keeps us coming back ;-)

LOL bro!!!

The PSD4 "rule of thumb" is smokem REALLY fresh otherwise you can't even think about smoking them for at least 18 months but it's worth the wait (IMHO of course).
