vlime77 Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Hi all, need some expert advice on setting up a cigar cabinet. I have been leaving my stash at a cigar divan for the past couple of years but since making my cigar purchase online was thinking of getting a cabinet at home. I'm living in Singapore where the weather is humid and warm 365days of the year. Average temperature around 31 deg celcius and humidity between 84% to 90%. 1) Is it absolutely necessary to buy an authentic cigar cabinet or is there some substitute? 2) Any recommended website to buy the cabinet. 3) I'm particularly worried abt the climate affecting the aging of my cigars so was thinking of using the air-conditioner to lower the room temperature where the cabinet will be situated. Over-reacting? Please help. Thanks. Thomas
The Privateer Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Thomas, I live in Singapore too. It really depends how many cigars you want to stock and how much effort you wanna put into it. I currently use a 50 bottle wine chiller and it's working great. This needs some maintenance to set up with the right humidity etc, but it solves the temp problem. The Brandt one is expensive, but keeps perfect temp (18-20C) and has no visible condensation. I graduated from using a 54-qt Coleman cooler. This worked well but temp remained high...there is a serious risk of bugs, believe me ;-) If you have air-conditioning and don't keep too many valuable cigars, then its ok. I'd imagine that buying a regular cabinet online will result in the same problems. Hope this helps!
Tampa1257 Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Thomas, Check out this web site for a climate controlled cabinet humidor. [link]http://www.aristocrathumidors.com/deltatindex.html[/link] Tampa
cigardawg Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 » Thomas, » » Check out this web site for a climate controlled cabinet humidor. » » [link]http://www.aristocrathumidors.com/deltatindex.html[/link] » » Tampa You can also try: [link]http://www.avallohumidors.com/index.html[/link] [link]http://cigarhumidors.vigilantinc.com/[/link] [link]http://www.vinotemp.com/index.php[/link] All three make humidity/temperature controled humidors. Honestly, had I the money, I'd go with a Staebell product (see Tampa's link), but I thought I'd give some choices.
1f1fan Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Thomas Good links above, my only suggestion is to get exactly what you want the first time and go big. I have upgraded from a few desktops, to a cooler, to a smaller Avallo (and a cooler) and now I am saving up for a large temp controlled unit....I should have just got the large temp controlled unit when I purchased my first cabinet.
jay8354 Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I am facing the same problems myself. Especially due to being in Australia, where Temp is high and Humidity is very low. I have checked out quite a few site for setting a cabinet but the cost of shipping from US is just beyond my reach. Which is why I am praying that El Prez will have his Cabinets here soon.
stogies&hoagies Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 » I have an aristocrat end table that I am very pleased with. It has a climate controlled "set and forget" humidity set up. I love it. Their customer service is top notch. I have no idea what the shipping costs would be to get it to you though.
vlime77 Posted March 9, 2006 Author Posted March 9, 2006 Thanks to all for the advices and the recommendation. A temperature controlled unit is very important to me too as the climate is very suitable for those nasty bugs. I will go ahead to get a big unit like you guys suggested and if the shipping cost is too high, looks like a wine cooler easily available in Singapore will be used instead. Once again thanks, I'm glad I've found FOH Thomas

The VinoTemp link that I gave you is just that. They only made wine coolers until someone asked for a humidor. They just customized a wine cooler with some spanish cedar, built in some drawers, and ended up adding it to their regular line. No big deal. Just a thought.
kingfisher59 Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 I have heard of setting up an old unused refridgerator with a wine chiller thermostat ...I guess It depends on how big you want to go .....how available are old fridgerators in singapore???? They are fairly abundant in the U.S. so this is a pretty feasable Project here!!!!

"El Prez will have his Cabinets here soon"????? Have I missed this link???? I'am in Sydney & would certainly purchase a USA style humi. Have been looking at an insite humi but still not sure. Can you bring me up to speed? Thanks.
genevapics Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 » "El Prez will have his Cabinets here soon"????? Have I missed this » link???? In the past month, maybe two, El Prez posted an update on the progress of the Czar Temp/Rh Humi. I forget the details, but I believe it was along the lines of having a prototype in the testing phase. Hope this helps.
