I was just gifted a 5'er of SLR A's from 01.

I was told that these are not suffering from any construction issues what so ever that i hear plagued the 00-01 habanos.

Cant wait to try one out:-D

Unlike many who praise the DC I do not. But DC's are not really my smoke of choice!

I like their 42 ring selection. The PC, Coronas and Lonsdales are all very good cigars. Perhaps you should try a box of the PC's as an intro. I don't think you can go wrong there. -Piggy

A close friend of mine got a box of the Serie As from 00. Plagued with draw problems. I've smoked a couple from the box and they were very tight. Not quite plugged, but not very pleasant to smoke, either.

churchills i´m a bit mixed on. some good, some less so. same for most of the others i´ve smoked. DC´s on the other hand are superstars. for me, just about as good as it gets.

Thank you all for the input. I will have to try the DC's in the near future, since it evokes such enthusiasm! It is a bit pricey, but maybe I can trade for some or find someone to split a cab.

I sampled my first Series A yesterday, and it was not quite what I expected. A bit tight on the draw, not plugged, but I had to work a little on it. The mildness in the beginning was redundant with flavours i still can't define and if I have to compare it with something it was like the taste of a Rioja Gran Reserva wine - musky and spicy. The sweet honey I've tasted in the Petit Coronas was much more subdued. From the middle to the end there was progressively more bite, you know the tongue-tingling peppery kind, but the musky quality was gone, replaced with simpler earthy and tobacco flavours. In all, I have to smoke a few more before I decode this one.

A note on smoking conditions. It was smoked while I took a walk with the wife and honestly, no good cigar will be fully enjoyed in sub-zero temperature and with a wife who is more interested in getting exercise than enjoying life... :-| The weather is harsh now up here in the north. Today at 7 am it is -15°C and snowing! I will smoke my second Series A inside the house, to be sure! ;-)

Greetings from a far and cold place

Love San Luis Rey. My fav of the brand would have to be the serie A. I find it has one of the most amazing aromas also.

Has anyone found a saltiness to the serie a?

I have an '03 cab...only smoked 1, but it tasted as if it were dipped in salt.

Have had only one dress box of Series A from '99 and have found them bland. Also experienced low smoke volumes even though the draw was okay. Maybe a bad year. Looking forward to trying the DC gifted by Rob and Lisa. Anyone know what year these are from?

Double Corona's are outstanding.

Cabinet Colorado or Colorado Claro Regio's are outstanding.

Colorado Claro Lonsdales (that draw) are excellent.

I am a little ambiguous on the rest. No loin moving material there although the Serie A has a lot of fans.

Just my 2 cents

» I have enjoyed all the SLR lines I have purchased.

I have also noticed a salty taste a few times but never equated it to the cigar I was smoking ....Thought it might have came from something I had ate prior to smoking....
