SuperT Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 I was sitting in my garage tonight, on a nippy NE Florida evening - drinking a few beers, roasting some coffee and smoking an Upmann Connoisseur No.1 and it got me thinkin'. . . This cigar gets virtually no press. Not many people talk about it and it's a dang fine cigar. Why do you think that is? What robsuto do you think gets the undeserved shaft and why?

In fact, it's the only Hermoso No. 4 (it's not technically a robusto) I haven't tried. Lives in the shadow of the Mag 46 I guess.
The Privateer Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 The SLR Regios is another underrated one. In fact, the entire line seems to have been relegated to the "connoisseur corner", which isn't always a bad thing after all ;-)
Mikey Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 I wouldn't say it's totally forgotten, but the Boli RC always seems to be mentioned in the second breath as opposed to it's cousins, PSD4's,Coro's,Rass.... I'm a big fan of the RC's.Love 'em,love 'em... not to say I don't like a few of the others I mentioned ;-) ps... they didn't even make the survey... :-D
Tampa1257 Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 What robsuto do you think gets the undeserved shaft and why? Technically speaking, I would say the Bolivar Royal Corona, a Robusto gets the least amount of love and is the most often overlooked Robusto.
SuperT Posted February 16, 2006 Author Posted February 16, 2006 Maybe I should have been more specific (for the nit-picky  ). Robusto/Hermosos No.4 to me are virtually interchangable.

It didn't use to be that way, did it? For some reason I remember the RC getting lots of love when the Bolivar marquee was known for its power and full tobacco during the mid-90's (before Bolis lost some of their luster post-98).
cigardawg Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 I think I would have to vote for the H Upmann Conn. No. 1 as well. It just doesn't seem to get much press. However, especially with some age on it, I find it to be a quite splendid way to spend an hour or so.:-)
n2advnture Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 JL #2 - Often over looked but I don't mind, more for me! Not sure why but it's a great smoke for the money! ~Mark
Mel Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Hermoso #4 or Robusto? they are close but not exact. Either way since no one has even mentioned the La Flor de Cano Short Churchill, which is a true robusto, I would have to say it gets the least attention/love. I've never even seen one. Who has?

I have seen photos. But I think Super T was referring to cigars that are in current production. For true Robustos, I would nominate Hoyo Epi #2 and JLo #2 as the least appreciated. For Hermosos #4 I would have to agree with Super T about the Upmann. For me, all of these are great cigars in their own right.
Mel Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 » » But I think Super T was referring to cigars that are in current » production. » » My bad. no wounder I have not seen it:-(
thschrminm Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Have to agree with Mark... The JL#2 is definitely a wonderful lunch smoke and with some age on it can rival the C-worded robusto...
mr.harten Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 I too really love the Upmann Connoisseur No. 1
Elric Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 » I too really love the Upmann Connoisseur No. 1 The Conn #1 is an excellent smoke with age.
CigarZen Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 » What robsuto do you think gets the undeserved » shaft and why? » » Technically speaking, I would say the Bolivar Royal Corona, a » Robusto gets the least amount of love and is the most often » overlooked Robusto. I used to LOVE the BRC. One of my go to cigars. Then late 90s they seemed to go down hill. I have tried a few single here and there, bought from the local LCHD or gifted from a freind back from havana...And here is the rub, they don;t seem to do it for me anymore. My questions is did they change, or did my palate?
CigarZen Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 On the Conny 1, and why it doesn't get the attention that other similarly size cigars get -- imo they are pretty flat for the first few years, then get much better. I never liked em, when I tried an aged one -- great cigar!
J-ROD Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 As much as I've seen the HU conn#1 mentioned here, I'm starting to think everyone keeps this to themselves cause they are so good. hhhmmmm....
stevejb Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 All smokes in these sizes are overshadowed by the big 3(CoRo, SD4, RASS). I think the ERDM choix is still the most slept on of the size.
hazleem Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Love the Upmann Connoisseur No.1. Ordered a couple of singles from Czar and they were super!! Gonna give myself a little present soon :-D
mgillett Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 SuperT Definitely agree on the Conny 1. I tried one a couple of months ago at the request of my dealer and was blown away. I had to buy another to make sure and it was the same. This lead me to get a box from the Prez. Yet to try this batch but may take the time tonight to try one to celebrate the birth of my daughter on Monday night. Hectic week! FYI, I am yet to try a Mag 46 but Rob did include one in the last order. Keen to give that a go. This might explain why the Conny 1 has been overlooked if this is all it is hyped up to be.

As the father of a 7 month old son, it is the most amazing journey you will ever go through. As for the Conny 1, I'm not sure how yours will compare to the one I smoked, but you can send me one and I'll let you know. ;-) I know, I know. . . what a good guy! I'm willing to do that for each and every one of you. Always looking out for my 'friends'. :-D
