Just exactly how did you fail? What... forgot again?!:surprised: How hard is Valentines Day? Come on mate! Try this:

[Executed with several inches of snow on the ground]

1.) 2 nice sized Porter House steaks for the grill...

2.) Nice tossed salad (baby greens, red onion, carrots, radish, walnuts, pine nuts, salad dressing of your choice/homemade vinegarette)...

3.) Asparagas (sp?) for the grill...

4.) Baked potato (or a baked Yam)...

5.) Brie, Blue Cheese, nuts, carrots for appetizers...

6.) French Bread...

7.) Bottle of Red wine...

8.) Storebought pound cake with a little orange marmalade (warmed up and drizzled over the cake)...

9.) And a cuban cigar... for me it was Monte #5... one of the ones you and several others suggested for a cold weather smoke. She loved the smell of it that she took a few hits!

Now, all of the above was prepped and cooked in under an hour! Considering you have kids I'll give you an extra 45 minutes! It's simple. Really.

oh yeah...

10.) Give her a card, some chocolate (nothing fancy, mine likes dark with nuts), and I picked up a pair of funky earrings at the card store!

As you and our Guiness friends would say: BRILLIANT!!

I am GOLDEN for this weekend!;-)

I have failed miserably for the past 2 years so I had to do something nice this year to make up for it.

I got my wife a gift card for a massage at a local Spa. Picked up a card from me and one from our son Logan...along with some chocolate.

The three of us went out and had a nice dinner (sushi and habachi sp?) and bought some toys for Logan.

Nothing exciting or over the top, just a nice evening out as a family. I know she hates it when I spend "all night" on the computer so its time to go.

Hope everyone had a nice v-day.

Look at it this way, you're leaving for a couple of weeks, and they say

absence makes the heart grow fonder....... unless you have a pool boy.

Do nothing and get nothing....and if she asks...tell her it was the thought that counts...and you thought about getting her something she likes...expensive dinner...etc.....:-P

Seriously....

Home cooked foor....if it wont kill her....even if you screw it up she will be touched..... worked for me this year.....

thankfully my wife does not like flowers as she thinks its a waste of money and that goes for going out for dinner cause she says they charge extra for no reason....on valentines day.

But i believe that the Cartier watch I got for her was the magical point for her.....:crying:

was one of my better efforts and one I am very proud of....last year stopped at shops on way home from work and picked up gourmet finger food: nuts, dips, cheeses, chocolate. Also picked up some champagne and waited for wifey to come home. Wifey comes how and says thanks for flowers I had delivered...yada yada yada, then whisked her off to Mosman for a picnic with all the good stuff I had bought previously. Spent the evening overlooking the harbour with the sun setting behind the harbour bridge. Not a huge $$ investment, but time and effort that she really loved....

Now that's the perfect Valentines! I know my perfect Valentines would be a Carl's Jr burger, a vintage Trinidad Fundadores, and a romp in the hay after ;-) All for under $100 :-D

Now why is it that it costs so much time, effort and money to please the ladies? Just kidding :-P it's always worth it isn't it!

Going back in time to high school:

Went to girls' house before school, she opens door & proceeds to lavish kisses etc & asks the question "Is that box for me?"

She opens box to find a medium CACTUS with red ribbon around it.

As the pressure building in her expression got to pre-Krakatoa, I explained why not red roses:

"The cactus is symbolic of our relationship; Its a big prick, just like me:-D , it will survive in the harshest of conditions & still be healthy, just like us, & its very unique & special, just like you;-) "

After putting down the plant (& not throwing it at my head), & allowing blood to drain from her face, she actually said that she was impressed I had put so much thought into it. After more talking about its uniqueness etc etc, she actually was stoked that I had made such an effort to give a special gift.

Best of all was spending the day at school listening to all the guys complain about how much they spent on roses, chocolates, toys etc & then have them hear from other girls in the school how I had come up with such a unique gift.:ok:

It all went swimmingly later on too, so I have to say it has very little to do with the flowers etc, it has all to do with the thought behind the gifts.

A nice Thai dinner, a walk holding hands while enjoying a cigar.

Simple, yet effective.

my 2 cents... You must find yourself a low-maintenance woman.

My wife is wonderful. The most simple things make her happy.

Most of my friends are married to selfish, materialistic ******* but that's their problem. I listen to them complain and just grin from ear to ear. I truly love my wife and everything about her. We compliment each other.

This year was simple, I cooked her a nice dinner which consisted of home-made crab cakes (her favorite), haricot vert ,with a nice chardonnay and vanilla ice cream with raspberry sauce, all followed up with a nice long session in the bedroom ( massage from head to toe, taking into consideration her comfort rather than my own).

I've done pretty well the last three years. When I first started seeing my Mate, Carolyn, I got reservations at a very nice Inn and we stayed there over Valentine's day weekend. I had Champagne and roses delivered to the room. I also brought a basket of fruit, cheeses, wines, teas, and coffee for the weekend. Didn't even need to leave the room (and we didn't :-D ) except for Valentine's day dinner.

Last two Valentines have been lower key. Charlottesville is full of really good restaurants, so I have made reservations at a different one for both of the last two years. It's gone over very well.:-P

That's an impressively deep hole to pull yourself out of. You must be truly gifted :lol2:

This year was a weekend at the beach in a small (only eight rooms), out of the way, but still very classy hotel. She had a fabulous time.

On the actual day, I brought her flowers, which I arranged, and chocolate, which I selected individually for her tastes.

It really makes her happy when I devote my attention to things like this, rather than just having something generic delivered.

I don't know if this was my most successful attempt, but it certainly was a success.

Mine yesterday was great, I got free tickets to the Cricket Final at the GABBA, so took the wife "Valentines Gift"!!!!!!!

My valentines day two years ago was pretty grand, I won a radio competition here in Brisbane and got $5000, to propose to my now wife. So flew we flew her down to Sydney staying at the Intercontinental and had the Sydney City Roosters (Her Favourite Tema) propose to her. Then we got a stretch Porsche Limo drive us around and went to a nice dinner at Bathers Pavilion Balmoral, we then got tickets to the sold out Lion King show. So that would tap out as the best one yet.

Better still the radio station gave me a CD of the audio, so whenever she says that I never do anything for her I put the CD in and press play and say "**** OFF!" I love being married.

I spent the better portion of the day talking up the day. Telling her I have a real big day planned and how life comes down to moments in a fashion reminiscent of love at first sight. She gets dressed in the formals and the night ends with an onion burger.

or did it?

White Castle, for the uninitiated, is a glorious version of McDonalds found in slums and vagrants' pushcarts.

Yep! My wife and I have a 6 month old. No babysitter - so we decided to order our favorite pizza, open a great bottle of red, sit on the living room floor and have a 'picnic'. I made a little tomato, mozzerella, basil salad to start.

After the 'picnic', we made a pot of chocolate fondue with pound cake, strawberries, bananas and marshmallows.

After the fondue, well. . . ;-)

Total date was very reasonable even WITH a great bottle of wine.

THAT is more our style than a $200 dinner out.

Way to go SuperT. I'm glad you're with me. More money to spend on Habanos.:ok:

I usually lead in with a few gifts two or three days prior - small gifts mostly - even let her pick out a thing or two.

This year started with a tire rotation and tune up...........
