Your Long Haul Protocol?

I generally don't mind travelling, which is a good thing as I do enough of it :lol3:

However, I have a 24 hr flight coming up tomorrow that I am just not looking forward to. It is a one week turnaround trip so close enough to 50 hours in the air in a week.

When you are facing a long haul flight, what is the protocol that works for you? I may need to mix up my own this time around

Gin. Love export strength gin.

Wash hands, face and brush teeth when possible to help feel fresh. Maybe a minor change of clothes.

That's a lot of travel - good luck.

Cheers!

A double bourbon on the plane before departure if possible. That’ll get me five or six hours of sleep. Then I’ll fidget for a while and eventually open the laptop on some work. Given the length, I would suggest drinking a ton of water, and then when appropriate time wise drink again to get some more sleep. I’m leaving on a trip in a bit. Longest leg only 8 hours. Will time My drinks carefully and eat dinner in a lounge beforehand so I can get right to trying to sleep.

But long haul flying in the end just sucks.

Compression socks and preemptive hydration.

Yes! Always the compression socks. My sister got DVT on a long flight. Easy enough to wear the socks, drink water and move around a bit when I’m not sleeping.

I go back and forth on it. Drinking very much not good on a plane, but if I’m in business class or better, I’d rather enjoy my flight. Most often, I’m going to enjoy myself post take off with drinks / dinner and then hope for decent sleep.

I like to preplan my movies / shows to minimize search time. Last summer back from Lisbon, I watched 3 Mission Impossibles that I hadn’t seen back-to-back-to-back. Made for a quick flight.

I have to land ready to go as no time to acclimatise. Not a big drinker on long haul. I will do a hard gym session late today in prep for the early flight. H2O on the plane and champagne + the odd negroni. Will try and get 8 hours sleep in there sometime. Even in business class, sleep doesn't come easy but without business class I would need 24 hrs after landing to get my shite together. Will be a great week. I will keep you good folk in the loop with a dedicated thread.

I have not flown over 5 hrs in many, many years. If I had to fly that far, I am thinking an edible would be a good thing🤣

I would double the edibles and add a few Jamison on the rocks!

All u can do is hydrate, earphones and face mask. Being able to lay flat is half the battle. Who ya flying with?

The second I get to the airport I change my watch to the timezone of where I'm going. I'll never sleep until it's reasonable sleeping hours at my arrival location. Coffee support. Then whisky to knock out. Never had jet lag since I started doing that.

Just assumed that all licensed Habanos distributors flew Emirates First Class Private Suite. I hear that a few extra helpings of the Iranian beluga will settle you down right away.

I use Xanax (alprazolam). Helps me get plenty of sleep and relaxes me when I'm awake. Movies or TV show binges are a big help, too, as is a bit of work. Lots of walking around, of course. Breakfast and coffee near arrival. But I've never flown longer than about 13 hours.

When flying from the U.S. to Europe, I usually pull an all-nighter then slam 3 overpriced drinks at the airport. Pass out on the plane and wake up on local time!

I’m interested if the lower cabin altitude of the 787 (6000 vs 8000) actually makes a difference in the real world. Meant to have a higher cabin RH too. Flying from Kiwi land should keep you out of the weather around Fiji/Vanuatu that is prevalent near the equator too.

I like to bring a book I have been dying to read and just tear in to it. Over the ear noise cancelling headphones a must for music or movies. Also like to catch up on work & correspondence to break things up.
