Jerryvonkramer Posted April 9 Posted April 9 For me this vitola features a lot of more "unusual" sticks. What do I mean? Hoyo Epi 1 - I saw a post from Rob before saying that the ratio of Epi 2 to Epi 1 sales is something like 50:1. For me the Epi 1 is a beautiful elegant creamy cigar. I just had one which inspired this post. I'm not sure what accounts for its lack of popularity, is it just availability? Juan Lopez No 1 - I find this immensely more floral than the JL2 to the point where I've had some where it's like potpourri, I'm not sure I'm into it and have only had a couple from a box and seeing if age does anything to mellow it out. Upmann Magnum 46 - the "black sheep" of the Upmann lineup, just so punchy. I've had a few that gave me nausea and so try to ensure I'm on a very full stomach. Punch Punch - peanuts of course, but I find Punch is a "different" brand in general. Always a "one off" for me rather than regular rotation. Siglo IV - I smoke Cohibas very rarely because I'm not a billionaire, so cannot really comment. 3
griller Posted April 9 Posted April 9 My favorite size, and I see where you're coming from with your observations. I think the Siglo IV is the class of your list, but an aged Punch Punch or Mag 46 can challenge this opinion any day. I've had good and "meh" Epi 1s, JL1s, but they can be fantastic when on. What most disappoints me is the attrition this sizing lineup has experienced from Habanos. I REALLY miss the Punch Royal Selection #11, Raphael Gonzales CE, and SLR Serie A. 2
mikejh Posted April 9 Posted April 9 I think 46 ring gauge is just right, wish more cigars came in this size. 3
Stevieboy Posted April 9 Posted April 9 The 46 ring gauge is perfect. It's a shame that there are so few left. I have one ERDM CG left and I can't bring myself to smoke it. 2
TacoSauce Posted April 9 Posted April 9 I love the size and shape of a Corona Gorda, but don't like that they are usually the "drier" and "woodier" blends in a marca. For example: HdM: Epi 2 is sweeter and Epi 1 is less sweet and woodier Juan Lopez: Sel 2 is sweeter and Sel 1 is less sweet and woodier Upmann: Mag 46 is one of the woodier, least sweet vitolas in the marca The less sweet and woodier flavor profile isn't my thing. 1 1
dicko Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Very interesting comments and agree with the corona gorda being more broody at times. My favourite size in hand although perhaps prefer robusto flavour delivery (tad lighter and easier). That said, the best two boxes in my humidor are a Punch Punch 2021 (cheers for the recommendation Mus) and a 2017 Siglo IV. Sent from my SM-G986B using Tapatalk 1
El Presidente Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Smoking a Queen Corona now. $ for $ , there is no better. So proud of Hamlet and his blend for this. We blended six and the one we chose is a cracker. Medium full, rich and sweet. The Trinity Robusto and the Ninfa are our top sellers, but for me the Queen Corona is the best. Love the vitola. 3
laficion Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Hi all, I've said it for years, "I AM A CORONA GORDAS GUY ". I just love the size, I love that caramel taste, I love the feeling of," NOT A LOT OF THIS AND A LOT OF THAT". All in all, a great cigar and size. When I think about it, PUNCH had, (at the time) four different corona gordas. What a shame !!!!!!!. P.S. Sorry folks, I forgot to say which one I liked, (the H.d.M. EPICURE NO.1). Thank you Guy 4
