  1. 1. Which camp are you in...

    • Soft Flame
    • Jet Flame
    • Doesn't bother me either way, just let me smoke the damn thing!
    • I use both, depends on the stick

For those who are soft flame users:

There is plenty of advice and video demonstration out there of the soot that a soft flame produces and therefore you shouldn't use a soft flame for cigars. There are however a lot of soft flame users in this community so it really can't be an issue?

Trying to reconcile this in my head!

I use a butane soft flame, I wouldn’t mess around with anything else.

Usually use this one outside, but anyone that is comfortable to use.

Ideally, soft flame for the initial light, then jet for touch ups. But if there’s any draft, even the most gentle of air movement appreciable, I’m reaching for the jet. Hate playing “chase the flame” so I’d rather risk singeing the wrapper than wondering if I got a good light for the duration of the stick.

My favorite lighter is this one: Vertigo Double Agent. Soft flame and jet, two lighters on one, finally with reasonable consistency and price. About 20 bucks.

That is badass! Where do I get one for 20? Searched and could only find one place that has them for 30 plus 13 shipping.

I have a bunch of lighters collected over the years.

Here are a few I had on hand; an FOH travel lighter (got a bunch of these, some in different brands) a Siglo lighter (gifted to me by my old man), some Zippos with butane inserts (too many to put in the pic, but these are my favouritess), Xikar Axia (that blew its plastic gas tank and now won't hold gas), A Xikar Astral (got it at the COH Drew Estate event in HK), Blazer Torch, Blazer Evo, then my table top lighters a Vector Tri-Pump, some el cheapo butane torch...and the party lighter for extended reach.

Got a bunch more floating around somewhere, just can't remember where they all are.

Mainly a torch guy with a slow toast unless I’m fishing or lighting up a “cheap stick”, then I’ll just torch and go. I’ll use a bic on the go for touch ups since I still haven’t finished getting my parts for my Sisuman. That’s on me though, there team was great and helpful. Now that I have some down time with a torn meniscus I can get that thing going again. I have a few other torches around here and there as well. Really whatever works or is on hand.

Sometimes out fishing or if my fluid is out I’ll use the mega torch. The green scorch is nice and adjustable. I have had it for 8-10 years (still has the $30 price tag on the bottom). That’s been my go too for a year, while the black culinary torch hasn’t been filled in a while but works great too.

The light sets up the whole cigar, nice and gentle for the win. This trusty Colibri has served me well.

Today is the first day of smoking a cigar from the last six months (last September) because I have been very sick with endocarditis starting last October and suffering a stroke from throwing off some of vegetation from the endocarditis infection to my brain which caused me difficulty with my talking. I currently have Speech Therapy and Physical Therapy to get better.

I thought my first cigar to smoke would be a tasty Puro Desnudo N7 Ninfas!!! 😍

I'm glad to hear of your recovery. I wish you the very best for your convalescence.

I mostly smoke outdoors on my porch, but when it isn't windy, I prefer a soft flame. I have two zippo lighters with butane inserts, and I love the feel in the hand and the pocket, much more so than any larger lighters I have had. So I mostly stick with these.

I only use a jet flame. I smoke outdoors and it saves the fuss that a soft flame would bring.

I have a DuPont and a cheap lighter that was given to me at the LDCH at Beirut airport. Jet flames are normally confiscated at airports but they were more than happy to give them away. Both have lasted me years despite using the only available (and very cheap) butane refill available here.

I just use whatever’s lying around. Currently it's a jet clipper. Have a few of those cheap torches knocking about too. Not yet ventured into pricey lighters. Until I get a DuPont, these will do.
