Popular Post Lucas Buck Posted Thursday at 10:43 PM Popular Post Posted Thursday at 10:43 PM Prefer a soft flame and nice slow roast but often resort to jet as I mostly smoke outside. 5
Popular Post mikejh Posted Thursday at 10:50 PM Popular Post Posted Thursday at 10:50 PM Matches and butane soft flame zippo for smaller ring gauges. Triple torch Palio for larger ones. In laws coming into town, doubt I’ll get to smoke anything this weekend. 5 1
Popular Post Chibearsv Posted Thursday at 11:09 PM Popular Post Posted Thursday at 11:09 PM These are all within arms reach of my garage chair. It’s a variety of backup plans. I was a Boy Scout after all. Hell, I’ll stick my head in the Weber if need be. My go to is the single jet Xifei though. I really like the precision so that’s my vote. 6
Popular Post zach_aren Posted Friday at 02:46 AM Popular Post Posted Friday at 02:46 AM I’ve tried ‘em all basically, and at the end of the day I prefer a torch. And then I’ve been through varying levels of torches, from expensive to very cheap. Nothing works better than those cheap techno single flame torches, you can buy a 4 pack for like 10 bucks. I can’t for the life of me get them to fail. I’ve got one I’ve had since 2017 and it’s been submerged at the bottom of a hot tub for several days and still has a perfect flame. I feel like the more I spend, the more likely it is to get gummed up and quit on me. At the end of the day all I’m really concerned about is getting the cigar lit evenly without scorching it, so generally just keep the heat of the flame at the foot until a nice cherry has formed, puff a couple times and get on with the smoke. 5
David8406 Posted Friday at 04:19 AM Posted Friday at 04:19 AM I prefer the soft flame, particularly from a DuPont. There’s just something about a nice heavy and quality made lighter. Slowly heat it up without touching the flame to the foot, but that doesn’t work outside with a breeze blowing. So most times, I’m using a triple or quad torch. I still keep the flame away and just use the heat if I can. Go through a lot of butane that way though. 2
Popular Post JohnS Posted Friday at 08:02 AM Popular Post Posted Friday at 08:02 AM Jet flame but that doesn't mean that I scorch the foot. On the contrary, I dial back the strength of the jet, keep the blue flame well away from the end of the cigar and light the foot as evenly as I can, taking my time while doing so. 8
Popular Post SirVantes Posted Friday at 09:25 AM Popular Post Posted Friday at 09:25 AM I only smoke outdoors, and have used the same Dupont Maxijet since 2017 - no complaints about its longevity, in contrast to quite a few FOHers' experiences. I use the slow foot toast technique, and would actually prefer a soft flame lighter were I able to smoke indoors. 5
Popular Post Li Bai Posted Friday at 11:33 AM Popular Post Posted Friday at 11:33 AM Jet flame for me, I too keep the blue flame away from the foot, I take my time. Mostly I use this one. It was gifted to me by my B&M after a box purchase like the owner usually does but this one is one in a thousand, all the other ones lasted a couple weeks but this one still works perfectly fine after 5+ years. It's ugly, its cap is long gone but reliable af 👍 9
Popular Post MagicalBikeRide Posted Friday at 11:47 AM Popular Post Posted Friday at 11:47 AM I’ve had this yoke for an eternity - need a jet for the wind here in Ireland 7

On average, how many cigars per lighter refill?
Popular Post Goldeneye Posted Friday at 04:41 PM Popular Post Posted Friday at 04:41 PM Nothing fancy for me for a lighter, very dependable and goes in my hunting pack come fall. Will not be smoking anything this weekend, in the midst of a wicked late spring snowfall...enough with the winter already! 6
Popular Post ryre Posted Friday at 08:11 PM Popular Post Posted Friday at 08:11 PM This thing is a workhorse. Takes a beating and I've never had an issue with it. It'll probably stop working tomorrow, now that I said that. I'll get the longest ash photos going... 6
zeedubbya Posted Friday at 08:52 PM Posted Friday at 08:52 PM Soft flame IM Corona Old Boy at home, torch at golf course or on the road— DuPont MiniJet. Forgot it, a Bic. Something about cutting cap with fingernail and using a bic makes me feel great - cause usually this means I’m on vacation! 1
BlueWS Posted Friday at 09:03 PM Posted Friday at 09:03 PM My brother-in-law laughed at my Seagate branded Zippo outside in the wind and bought me a Xikar torch. It has a few miles on it and I try to be gentle lighting the foot. I try to get an even burn and some white ash forming before I take the first puff. I check it for evenness and touch up the foot quickly and that's it. 4
tbelle7 Posted Friday at 09:20 PM Posted Friday at 09:20 PM This Siglo Chameleon is by far the most reliable lighter that I own. Got it @ the LCDH in Saigon ~ 18 months ago. I use whatever butane I find. It just works. That's more than can be said for some of the more expensive lighters that I have since tossed in the garbage. Toast the foot, a couple of puffs and move on. 2009 Trinidad Robusto Extra 3
Popular Post cigaraholic Posted Saturday at 02:43 AM Popular Post Posted Saturday at 02:43 AM For home, car and golf course where I I do 98% of my smoking it’s a single flame torch. For social settings where I don’t want to look like a crack addict I use this Palio. The long ash is something I’ve never done, I didn’t use a wire but I did have some help. I’ve been smoking thru a box of Partagas Shorts SOU MAR21 which has been very nice. But last week I lit one and it just didn’t want to burn, so into the ashtray it went. The next day I checked it and it was like it was rolled charcoal. I had another one that stopped smoking about halfway a few days later. This evening I lit one after dinner which was a little tuff to lite but smoking alright, taped it on the ashtray about an inch in and it didn’t budge. So I thought this stick might be perfect for a long ash if it burns OK. The only thing that stopped me was the length of this cigar and I don’t have fireproof fingers. 5 2
DennyPaul Posted Saturday at 07:05 AM Posted Saturday at 07:05 AM Ideally, soft flame for the initial light, then jet for touch ups. But if there’s any draft, even the most gentle of air movement appreciable, I’m reaching for the jet. Hate playing “chase the flame” so I’d rather risk singeing the wrapper than wondering if I got a good light for the duration of the stick. My favorite lighter is this one: Vertigo Double Agent. Soft flame and jet, two lighters on one, finally with reasonable consistency and price. About 20 bucks. 4
Redgoldband Posted Saturday at 08:05 AM Posted Saturday at 08:05 AM Been experimenting with cedar spills lately. My go-to lighter over the last few weeks has been this Maven. The low setting has this torch/soft flame effect that works well for toasting. Friday night smoke: PSD5. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
david9985 Posted Saturday at 08:21 AM Posted Saturday at 08:21 AM For those who are soft flame users: There is plenty of advice and video demonstration out there of the soot that a soft flame produces and therefore you shouldn't use a soft flame for cigars. There are however a lot of soft flame users in this community so it really can't be an issue? Trying to reconcile this in my head!

I use a soft flame butane lighter, which is what most of the soft flame cigar lighters on market have. For the people using Zippos, my guess is they don’t care about the soot it produces and/or they like the smell or they’ve switched to a butane insert. I like to use a zippo sometimes on a pipe because it reminds me of my Great Grandfather smoking his. Don’t really notice much soot really. Hope this helps clarify some. 1
Ford2112 Posted Saturday at 03:07 PM Posted Saturday at 03:07 PM I bought this at a Chevron gas station out of pure desperation. It was all they had, and I love it. I especially like watching my friends struggle to use it and tell them " it's childproof ". 6 bucks. 3

Capn_Jackson Posted Saturday at 06:42 PM Posted Saturday at 06:42 PM My trusty tactical. Toast around the edges for probably a good ten seconds, and then a few puffs to light. 3
