Quck question Rob. What Lighter gas are you or members using. I have had it with lighters giving up life after 6 months and with so many doing so it is likely due to me using 5x filtered gas which is the only one I can find locally. Shipping in is hard when it comes to gas. Can you and members PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE point me in the right direction with brand and type?

Over to you good people. Let him know what brand and X purification level you are using....that works for you.:ok:

I’ve been a sucker and bought the S.T. DuPont Red and S.T. DuPont Black gas for a couple of my since failed lighters. Turns out the Colibri gas worked just fine.

Don't get me started on lighters.

I use Whip It! brand. Honestly, most problems with lighters come from not purging/filling them correctly. That and the fact that a lot of lighters, even expensive ones (I'm looking at you, ST DuPont) are hot garbage.

I bought the Xikar high altitude for my Xikar lighter because the dope at the cigar store told me it’s the “good stuff”. The lighter hasn’t functioned the same since. I’ve emptied it, purged it, and filled it countless times since and it barely makes a flame. Now I have to send it in for warranty. I guess 700 ft above sea level is not high altitude.

Get a cheap "Vertigo by Lotus Cyclone Triple Torch Cigar Lighter" and it won't matter what butane you use.

I use Lotus butane because it's cheap and the package says it's the purest butane available. 99.999999 percent pure (which is better than Ivory soap!). I don't use any jewelry lighters, just functional ones and they all light my cigars just fine. My lighters are much more likely to have problems from me dropping them than anything else.

If I ever get my Dupont serviced again, I am going back to their own cartridges. Wasn't impressed with the adapter and fancy aftermarket fluid.

Truer words never printed on this forum. Xikar butane comes in a big can that will last for years and years. If I have to buy boutique butane I’m going to be disappointed with the lighter that demands it.

The number of people I see having problems with their expensive lighters is what puts me off buying one. I use cheap plastic jet flame lighters together with cheap no-name gas and they've never let me down.

I hasten to remind you that the little girl on the Ivory Soap box was named Marilyn Chambers in later life…😳

Xikar Purofine High altitude….works for me in the Eagle torch lighter. I have Dunhills and St DuPonts, but paying for the rola-gas and the fittings is extortion.

I 100% agree. I bought this one back several years ago. Dropped it and broke the lid off two or three years ago. She will burn any fluid. I think it will run on water.

Been using Newport butane for 20+ years.

I agree. Great gas. It has kept all of these running, some of them for many years :
