rabidraccoon Posted Sunday at 06:20 AM Posted Sunday at 06:20 AM Just wanted to share this film which I watched yesterday. It's not strictly about cigars but they do feature pretty heavily throughout the plot as the main character is an apprentice in a Vienna tobacco shop prior to WWII. The film is about his friendship with customer Sigmund Freud. It's more of a period piece about his life during the time but I really enjoyed it. Something interesting I saw in it was when they were talking about a box of Hoyo de Monterreys, the bands on the cigars had the exact same design that the modern ones do which is super cool (if true) that the bands haven't changed in that long. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7477068/ 3
JohnS Posted Sunday at 11:54 AM Posted Sunday at 11:54 AM Thanks for sharing. If the film mentioned a larger ring gauged cigar (say over 47 rg), then that Standard A band has been around since the 1920s; otherwise, other bands within the Hoyo de Monterrey marca have been introduced to the line from the 1950s onwards. Incidentally, below is a link to a article on the film from Cigar Snob Magazine... https://www.cigarsnobmag.com/stories/2020/11/23/the-tobacconist/ 2
