LaoFan Posted March 8 Posted March 8 I give all my cigar friends free smokes on the regular when out for meals/dinner/drinks. If they reciprocate I double down. Having said that, if they want something from the humidor to smoke without me I charge them market price. I think everybody finds it fair. 3
zeedubbya Posted March 8 Posted March 8 I’m looking at this from a replacement value standpoint any more on reg production with a very small premium for age-I’m going to just say, 10% for every 5 years or thereabouts. Can’t see it any other way really. If a cab of PLPC costs me x to replace, I have to get at least that to justify it. HOWEVER, as a side note, I recently had a MASSIVE MASSIVE cigar bomb dropped on my head for helping a fellow BOTL obtain a hard to get gift for a friend. It was 50 sticks plus..! Jaw hit the floor, and it reignited my interest and gave me more faith in our friendships made in these forums. I fired back best I could, but whew that was a doozy. I’ve been extremely fortunate to have been gifted some unbelievable cigars and so I believe in smoking aged unobtainables with friends for $0. If I paid 30 bucks for a Bushidos in 2016, I am not selling it for the 4x it demands, I’d rather smoke one with a friend and just watch them enjoy something I paid 30 for, than make the 90. On the other side if someone happened to come along with say, hmm…let’s just hypothetically say a 50 Cab of 2006 BCE , I’d be happy to pay 4-5x for it, because I wouldn’t mind shelling out the coin for something I personally really want in my collection. 2
tbabes Posted March 8 Posted March 8 I’ve given away lots of cigars to friends, but have never sold. A friend who is in the business got me a box of Padron 60th anniversary and sold it to me at his cost, and that’s what I’ve done when selling wine to friends over the years. I had to do some mental gymnastics on a few occasions. My cost in 2001 was a lot less than market value today, but as long as they follow the same rule, it’s all good.
Lunettesman Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Not sure I totally understand the question, but with my good friends, it's always the price that has been paid. No extra charges.
jpcullman Posted March 9 Posted March 9 I either give it away, or I connect them with someone who can sell them what they're looking for. My experience = friends and business need to be separate. 1
