Pros and Cons of a 25 post minimum to access FOH Cigar Lounge Discord?

New FOH Cigar Lounge Discord is good to go as you know 

Purpose: Lounge where everyone/anyone can jump in any time of day to catch up or meet new FOH folk. 

Still, in discussions with out test panel, it was deemed appropriate to have a minimum FOH post limit to be able to gather the one-off link and participate. 

Why? Trust. I think everyone understands that. We have always had a "No Tosser No Wanker" policy on FOH and it has served us well. Certainly, there has been blow back from time to time in that we are a  tad too "restrictionist" but in the main I think we have got it just about right. 

So on to the FOH Cigar Lounge Discord. Let me know your thoughts. Open entry? 5/10/15/20/25 posts before getting the golden key?

I would have gone over 25. It's a forum which is meant to share information, opinions and tales. It's hard enough to spot a troll with a few posts. Some topics you may read and not contribute, but the converstaions vary so widely here that I cannot think how someone who wanted to participate would struggle with a post every other day and make it in within a month or two. It's also an incentive to get more dialogue.

The purpose for a chat group is for us to relax and enjoy each other's company and not to be suspicious of others. More posts gives greater assurance. JMHO

At first reaction I thought 25 was low but it’s probably enough to know someone’s at least willing to participate.

When you mean post, do you mean starting a topic, or commenting on other topics? I am still very new (and weary of the hammer) so I tend to tread lightly. Still getting my feat under me.

25 is good. I would have gone with 100.  Both have their strong points.  At 100 you get a more "dedicated" member that took some time to participate in the forum.  At 25, you get someone who isn't as dedicated and just wants to jump on to the Video Herf now and then.  Which in turn, could lead to more forum participation.  Some people like to type in their thoughts, some like to express them live.  Adding Discord to the FOH mix now allows for both.

As someone with only 37 posts (now 38!), even I would suggest a higher threshold.   50 or 75 just feels right.

25 seems reasonable - especially for folks who might like to read more than comment.

Is there a way to quietly report someone who’s being a punisher to admin team on Discord? I’d bet it would be rare but one never knows.

I picked 10 and I rescind my vote. I thought a post was starting a topic, and it is not. I don’t post a ton and I think 50 could be good.  Or maybe 25 and some amount of time as a member. This could be a middle ground of sorts.

If the discord channel is only going to be used for chatting, not sure what the point of restricting anyone is.

Yep. 100 for me as well. Contribute. It is a 100 for the trading room no. I think this has far more value than the trading room.

Short answer would be having an understanding of FOH culture. 

Video chat is open to all topics of discussion as we have/had in FOH Zoom. Divergent opinions shared with grace/tolerance and most importantly humour!  An environment where agreeing to disagree is the norm, where one couches their thoughts/argument in such a way to offer insight as opposed to straight dogma.

I think that the last thing you want is people like me despoiling the chat room. I recommend maintaining a sliding minimum-post requirement set at my current number of posts plus one.

Short of having a minimum time as a member here to understand the vibe/community/house rules, eg for a month, a month's worth of posts chatting to established members on threads seems a good option.

So yeah 25/50 seems fair to me. I could be persuaded for more or less, but I know some people prefer to post more discerningly, like Ken, so they will have less posts naturally but may have been a member for a few months or more.

A quick scan through someone's last 10 posts/messages is usually enough to see if they would be invited to your tea party or not.

Rarely use discord, but if I were to jump on board, I would mirror the majority of people in this thread and say it needs to be higher than 25.

I've seen many high quality WhatsApp groups spiral down in quality at a rapid rate once the bar to entry is lowered.
