Gene was lucid enough to drink water and yet didn't notice his wife's body for a whole week...Incredible. The dog remains a mystery...

Just heard the news that Gene Hackman (and wife and dog????) had passed. terribly sad. one of my all time favourite actors. a superstar.

One of my favourite movies of Gene’s - Crimson Tide, enjoying Monte 2s with Denzel Washington -‘How are you enjoying the cigar? It’s good Sir - Don’t like them too much, they’re more expensive than dr

How did the dog end up in the bathroom closet left alone all that time to die? Gene must have heard the barking since he died a week after the wife. Very, very strange story. The wife must have been around rats in the mansion to die from hantavirus, even that is extremely rare and strange. So Gene didn't recognize that his wife was dead and didn't have one lucid moment for a week to realize that there was a dead body on the floor even though the report said he was in an advanced Alzheimers phase. Was Gene able to feed himself?

the dog was apparently in a pet crate in the bathroom. it was in that because of a recent procedure. so he may have heard barking but assumed that was all good.

as for the wife, do you really need more than one mouse or rat? they were on a six acre property so you'd have to think that there were rats/mice around.

but for me, the bottom line is that the poor bloke had bad Alzheimer's. do any of us really know how or why he'd been acting the way he was. i suspect he was terrified and had no idea what was going on or how to do anything about it. or even who he was or probably where he was. so very sad.

He may have been close to being in a vegetative state and had no clue to his surroundings. I have seen it happen to family members and they would not have been aware of a barking dog or a deceased body close by.

The entire estate was going to go to Gene's wife and now she's dead.  So who is going to get Gene's estate and his assets? As far as we know, his kids were not named in his will.
