My name is banos. No really.  And I'm generally a happy chappy.

My late best friend Brent would always call me Kaptain Karl when we fished on my boat together. Mostly in a pirate voice haha. Probably put 500+ hours fishing together in the years before his death. A

I’m probably in the outright strange category.

In my early days of exploring the internet, say 2006 ish, I came across this absolute odd ball of a video - “magical bike ride” is just a phrase that has stuck with me. The video still makes me laugh (for many reasons).

Major double rainbow vibes:

So obnoxious. Grandstanding at it's best.

Still, it helps make censures/ bans stick with minimal argument. ;)

Been to Cuba many many times and enjoy their rum and cigars. Thought the handle was fitting. Also used it on other cigar forums.

My first job out of college was teaching middle school in the Bronx. Since I rather naively just told the students my last name on the first day rather than writing it on the board or putting a sign on my door, many students went through much of the year thinking my name was “Mr. Birdman” - and it sounded similar enough with their Bronx accents that I was never the wiser. One day Jefferson, a student in 7th grade, wrote (on his own initiative) an apology letter for getting “tight” (angry) at me in class. Given the sincerity of the letter, I immediately knew its salutation “Dear Mr. Birdman” wasn’t a joke - he genuinely thought that was my name. Upon asking other students, I quickly learned most thought I was Mr. Birdman. I later told a teacher I knew with a similar last name and he had exactly the same issue. But I’d largely forgotten about this by 2020.

Then while running for public office, COVID hit and campaigns went online. During one event, we got Zoom bombed by some middle schoolers who, upon seeing my name, began calling me “Brett Birdman.” I joined FOH a month or two later.

Among other benefits, this is a place of learning, so I suppose it’s fitting in retrospect.

Love your story! I assumed it came from the Inarritu movie, which I love too btw 🤔

I suspect most do on first glance - which is fine with me since it's an excellent movie, one of my favorites from the last decade.

2 of our teams sales guys are from Washington Heights. I hear them tell me how tight they are or how brick it is outside at least 10x per week.

Mine has to do with my last name and a 2-stroke motor racing business I had long ago. My wife hates my last name and my handle.

Just my first name and the first initial of my second name. People are so easily confused when your Christian name is West. Plenty of stories 😎🌴

Funny, once I wondered if your handle was a possible great gatsby reference - "west egg" but thought better of it when I read it more carefully 😚💨

Very much agreed 👍

I believe the origin of my FoH Handle is self-evident. First name and first letter of my surname, exactly like @westg. Similarly, @Ken Gargett's handle needs no explanation but he came up with it a long time ago (maybe twenty years ago when the forum was in its infancy) and having a 'handle' separate from your name wasn't anywhere near as prevalent as it is nowadays, maybe excepting if you were a 'gamer'. Similarly, I believe @El Presidente's forum handle requires no explanation other than to add that El Jefe could have been an option for him too. But hey, Presidente is one step up from that.

Well nothing too special about mine. It’s just my first and middle initial followed by my last name.

Once upon a time my name was Mike. My wife corrals me in public using Mick, as it’s less common and easier to get my attention. Apparently I’m no longer Mike, but now named Mick.

A few Van Winkles enhanced my life - my make dog’s formal middle name is Van Winkle.
