UselessMuffin Posted February 5 Posted February 5 This is my first real post here so don't kill me if I'm not doing this properly but ill give it a go. I'm new to Cubans but not cigars and I'm looking for some good recommendations with what I smoke currently in mind. My everyday smoke will always be a 1926 Padron No.9 if not that, then something in the Padron 1926-64. I do like to branch out though so I don't mind unique vitolas or something that's a bit milder yet creamier in comparison to a Padron. So with that in mind what would you guys recommend? I did recently order a box of Siglo 1s just to test the whole experience out. They came they were legit and every minute I wait to smoke one seems like an eternity but I plan on smoking one after 2 months in the humidor and let the others sit for a while. But I have to admit if I were to make a different first order I would have went with some Esplendidos or some HdM Epi 2s.
Gubbins Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Maybe try some Bolivar Belicosos Finos, if you tend toward bolder cigars. 1

Gubbins Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Back in the day it was considered a strong and bold blend. These days it might not be considered quite as such, but still in comparison to other Cubans. The BBF has a bold stouty taste to it. I read somewhere that Bolivars have more seco in the blend than volado (combustion leaf), which is quite rare. I’m sure someone who knows more can comment on this. If you are buying Bolivar and tend towards larger cigars, you can’t go wrong with BBF’s. However the smaller vitolas are also great. 1

But there's so many brands that just look soooo good. Just waiting to get my Opus11 box in and them I'm buying Cubans only for a few months.
BrightonCorgi Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Most are going to be milder than Padron in general. I would suggest focusing on the vitolas you like to smoke first. If I recommend a Petit Corona and you like Churchills what good is that? 2
Ford2112 Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Try the global brands like Partagas, Montecristo, H.Upmann and the like. Pick your sizes and go from there. Padron and Cuban tobacco are different animals entirely. You have to try different things in order to see if it's for you. 2
joeypots Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Lots of Cuban cigars come in ten count boxes. Tough to go wrong with a tenner of PSD#4, for example. That'll give you a taste of the Cuban experience in a very popular vitola, for sure. 4
Ayub Posted February 6 Posted February 6 My experience is very modest, but I will recommend based on what I liked during the year I've been smoking Cubans: Partagas D4 & P2, Monte 2 & Edmundo, Punch Punch, Upmann 46. Boli Beli is good if you could find it. & RASS...definitely RASS. Daily smoke I recommend PLPC, Partagas Shorts or D6, Monte Media Corona. Enjoy
SCgarman Posted February 6 Posted February 6 A young box of Partagas Shorts can be a fuller, bolder cigar. Ramon Allones Specially Selected is great also. Bolivar is no longer the "power house" it once was, as all modern Cuban tobacco is basically on the medium side. Just be prepared for tighter draws and much more inconsistencies than Padron Anniversaries. I am a Padron 64 lover myself. Some of the finest sticks on the planet. 1
CaptainQuintero Posted February 6 Posted February 6 It might be worth mentioning too that coming into Cuban tobacco and expecting something similar to most NC, especially Padron, will most likely leave you disappointed. They are a different style; there's no real big punch in the mouth cigars and no pepper bombs. It's generally centred around a medium bodied core with sweetness. Mostly leathers, cake, creams, fruits and milk chocolates. It's probably fair to say Cuban tobacco generally can't do what NC does and vice versa unless you get something special. So you might find yourself delving into the light Cubans like QdO as something so different to what you're used to. (As a very general rule) 3
