El Presidente Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Can you recall your first half dozen cigars? Throw back to the first 3 months on your cigar journey. Can you perhaps recall (you don't need to be clinical) your first half dozen cigars? List them here as best as you can recall. I will arrange a "throwback group vid review" of cigars that were pivotal in our start as cigar lovers.
Ken Gargett Posted January 29 Posted January 29 honestly, i doubt any had names that would be recognisable to anyone on this forum. no doubt made from whatever was swept from the floor of some downmarket barber and put together with rolling paper. they would have been stored, both by maker, retailer and subsequent owner, in cheap boxes by people who could not spell humidity let alone explain it. i would most likely have then stored them in a plastic bag at the bottom of a backpack for anywhere up to 18 months. none would have been smoked by me in a condition that could have been remotely related to sobriety. trust me, if you are videoing them, then it will be the equivalent of a cigar snuff movie. it is a wonder i persisted (i can only assume most were given to me by well-meaning but clueless mates).

MagicalBikeRide Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Monte 4, Epi 2, Monte 2, Monte 5, RASS and RASCC. And in that exact order. Years ago now, but I could describe where and when I smoked each of them in reasonable detail (who I was with, how was I feeling, did I enjoy it, etc. - rather than notes of any form). 2 1
riderpride Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Oliva serie O & G, Boli RC, ERDM CS, JL2, Epi 2. Not in that order. It was more about the experience back then. Wasn't paying attention to flavors, just having a good time. Cheers 2 1
Popular Post Greenhorn2 Posted January 29 Popular Post Posted January 29 Jesus, I can't remember what I ate for breakfast, much less cigars from years ago. 3 1 2
mikejh Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Fuente Curly Head Macanudo Cafe Fonseca Habana Seleccion CAO Gold Punch Gran Puro Didn’t manage to get ahold of a Cuban until a few years in. Still smoke gran puros regularly, the rest I could do without. 1

Tinny Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Fuente 858 Maduro, Fuente Short Story, AVO no 3 Maduro, Davidoff Serie R, maybe a CAO somethin' in there as well. 2
pohlmad Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Don Diego Playboys and Davidoff Special T is all I can remember. 3
david9985 Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Guantanamero Cristales, Henri Winterman, Hamlet, Cafe Creme. 1
Li Bai Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Easy ! My first one was a RYJ N°2 tubo my best friend brought back from Cuba around 1998. The 4 next were H.Upmann Coronas Major (why would they switch the gorgeous silver tubo they used to come in to those ugly beige ones ???) at the time you could find them almost anywhere here. I used to purchase those from a little b&m next to home that wasn't specialised in cigars at all (they didn't even have a humidor 😅). 2

westg Posted January 29 Posted January 29 First cigar H. Upmann Majestics. Just try it...those three famous words that made me fall in love with Cuban Cigars. Monte Petit Edmundo, Partagas No 2, Padron 1926 Robusto - my first non-Cuban and with all the hype drove a wedge as to the vast difference between this and any non-Cuban and Cuban cigars. R&J No 1 along with Monte PE - will always have some on hand. Ramon Allones SS. I must buy a box of Majestics, it's been a while. 2
99call Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Mixed bag ordered from Gesto. Stuff like: - Gispert Habaneras no 2 - JLP Cazadores - ERDM CS - RG panatelas extra - JL Panatelas Superba - QDO Gran Corona. I remember being really confused, as the 'treat cigars' I'd opted for (like the QDO) smoked like shit, and were awful, but the JLP Cazadores and the ERDM were great. It was 1999 -2000 and I had no idea about tight rolls at that point. I saw the CC world as being completely upside down initially. That said in 1999 there is a good chance I was being given stuff out of boxes from 5yrs before, who knows? 2

ha_banos Posted January 29 Posted January 29 I remember a Charatan, PC I think. I remember I had a small desktop humidor with some NC Cuban named cigars like RyJ and Montecristo and Upmann. I didn't know what was going on back then. I don't actually recall the migration to CC. But I did end up giving away all my NC in that humi (20ct) he wasn't bothered and we'd smoked some together along the way. He never got into it though. 1
El Presidente Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 I would love to do a UK /Euro vid session on this "throwback first smokes". It will be a hoot if you can get a team together for a weekend 10 or 11 am your time. 3

Our distributor couldn't move his 5000 sticks in a 15 year period so I was invited to smoke an aged one. It aspired to appalling. 2
GavLew79 Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Hamlet, Cafe Creme, Villiger Tubos, Monte No.5, Mitchell's Peruvian things, er, Inca!, then Hoyo Epi 2, D4, Cohiba Sig I, II, III, IV and Robusto.
HenryMartin Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Twelve years ago in The Hague, in the freezing Dutch winter, the hotel had a beautiful cigar lounge and I was intrigued. I was recommended a Davidoff, perhaps a Millennium, perhaps a Signature. It was satisfactory but crucially, it was persuasive enough for me to comeback the following evening to give another a try. Only this time, an Opus X Belicoso XXX and for the first time ever, an experience much more than just a cigar. Beyond that, a series of plugged disappointments, random adventures and priceless moments. My first box of Habanos was a Partagas Shorts, I smoked them fresh, naïve as I was.

joeypots Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Started with the Avo #3 in like 1996. Next memorable cigars were Punch Grand Crue Churchills and new world Partagas 10. Cuban cigars were about five years later.
Chibearsv Posted January 29 Posted January 29 I couldn't list them exactly in order, but they were Dutch Masters and/or White Owls and/or Tiparillos. All before I turned 16 and aside from a break here and there due to college rules or finances, been on the "journey" ever since. I'm not so much a connoisseur (like so many of you on the forum), I'm a cigar smoker.
