I have been damn lucky.  20 years of rugby......pretty much nothing. A couple of thumb strains due to poor takling technique, but really nada.

Last three weeks. Meniscus ligament strain that brought me to heel (excuse the pun). Yesterday, Level 2 ligament wrist tear after warming up on the monkey bars at gym. FFS, I do it all the time! This one is the most painful I had had.

Getting older (60 Feb 12)  may mean a slight rethink.

Overall i have been lucky in terms of exercise/sporting injury.

Your worst sporting injuries?

Torn ACL, shredded meniscus, broken ankle, nine fingers broken at least once, nose broken at least 5 times, fractured hand. Basketball and 16” softball are fun!

Shoulder/knee. Did you know that if you’re traveling at 80 MPH on snow skies the 3”/75mm birch tree doesn’t bend?  No flex at all.😔

Nose broken? My older brother made it down to your house, too? I always thought that he was just kidding😳

Broken thumb playing footy. Fractured ulna mountain biking that actually hurt and these days it gives me  gentle reminders of what I can't do.

In the last few months I have realised that I probably shouldn't body surf anymore. I just love it and my local beach provides perfect relatively small waves that you can catch to the shore with ease. You do get washed around a little and it's great. Problem is the next day I feel and walk around as though the entire All Blacks team have lined me up one by one and knocked the living suit case out of me. My whole body is in ruins as a result. Yep, I keep going back for more.

God I love Body surfing as well as Surf Ski wave surfing. I was damn good back in the day with my McTavish high performance ski. Eskimo rolls were de rigueur. I took it out last time for a session at Kingscliff. I almost had to signal to the lifesaver patrol.

also been pretty lucky, touch wood.

as a kid at school, pre glasses, keeping up at the stumps. batsman got bowled and the ball went at an angle and hit me between nose and eye. blood everywhere but no pain at all. parents all going nuts, white shirt turned red, had to be helped up but no way was i going off. so brave. i may not have mentioned the no pain bit.

some years later, picked for reserve grade for my first game. a huge law school dinner the night before. i have stayed right off the piss. a good mate did not. so useless i had to carry him out. going down stairs, he thought it would be funny to see what happened if we tripped. so down we go. knee blew up something wicked. i was not happy. but no way was i letting on. give someone your spot and you may never get it back. hurt like hell all day but i got through it.

got sunburnt a lot.

after all the years, i think that is pretty lucky.

Not to take away from the more adventurous members - and honestly having great sympathy for any of your injuries, the greatest injury I had was rolling down a hiking trail and pulling a few cactus needles out of my leg. Quit hiking that day.

Normally I say that the worst sporting injury I've had was getting hit by a champagne cork that a friend aimed at my head.

Mountain biking and snowboarding have given me a torn left meniscus (my knee was scoped and a menisectomy preserved around 60%), multiple broken ribs, a broken pinky toe and a fractured nose.

Broke 3 vertebrae on a dirt bike while racing around in the foothills. Got a helicopter ride for that one. 😃

Pulling plates of the flat bench barbell and did not see there was a ten. Fell right onto my big toe, crushing the bone. Was wearing Sperry's. Nail came off after they drilled it to relieve the pressure.

Couple of broken noses playing soccer and concussion in cycling accident.

Fouled a baseball off the inside of my foot which broke a few bones, will never forget that burning sensation. The only thing worse I have experienced pain wise was my appendix almost rupturing.

was not a sporting injury but yes, the appendix rupturing is not fun. mine was followed by gangrene and peritonitis. in montreal to begin but they diagnosed food poisoning. seriously. and then the muppet doctor decided he had to go back to check and drain it all again, did i get a general? no. a local? no. an aspirin? no. did i even get to lie down and bite on a stick? no. the butcher (lord, i hate French-Canadian hospitals and doctors - not all nurses though, although i know where they got the inspiration for rachett) simply put the hook into the top of the forming scab while i was standing in front of him and ripped it down opening me up again. and then had the hide to ask me not to scream so much. and then not to swear at him.

when it all blew up again, by now out of corpse city montreal and in Ottawa, the docs got it all under control and when, a couple of weeks later, i was leaving, the chief came to see me and give me some advice. we think we got it all (they hadn't - it literally exploded green puss all over a friend's parent's beautiful white shag carpet) but if not and if it does blow up, go straight to the nearest emergency. unless you are in quebec/montreal, in which case go straight to the nearest airport, hop on any plane and when you arrive, go straight to the nearest emergency ward.

Age 6/7 - got a pair of leather boxing gloves for Xmas, dad fight on his knees - caught a nice pop to the eye and little swollen lip. Next day at school, nun asked what happened and god forbid I would lie.  Well she called the house to yell at my father. It was pretty funny, since the nun knew my family anyway. God I loved boxing/fighting. Separated shoulder in football, finger 90 degrees due to not looking at a pass in hoops, later on broken bone in foot playing hockey, did not hurt until the ice skate came off.

Came out to China to play hoops. 5'4 muggsy bogues 'the chinese version' decided to turtle shell in the paint when I hop stepped middle. my body momentum kept moving and my legs stopped at the knee. torn acl and meniscus. I just knew. But hey... Kobe recovered didnt he? (too soon?)

I spent the better part of a year rehabbing and getting back to prime shape.3 months later I did the other knee in almost the exact same way. I decided it was time to hang up the kicks at that point.
