Popular Post El Presidente Posted January 20 Popular Post Posted January 20 Does anyone else smoke through a box if they are "on"? Caught up with Larry from Cali Saturday for lunch and a cigar. Great lunch! Neither one of us is short of cigars and we share one thing in common. If a box is smoking really well.....we will smoke through the box in relatively quick time. Are you much the same or do you stick to your regular rotation smoking plan? 14
Popular Post westg Posted January 20 Popular Post Posted January 20 Always. If they are on. Monte 2, Petit Edmundo. D4 and JL No 2 especially. Just me, except for JL 2 the other 3 are at their best at 12 to 18 months. I just plough through them. Rich savoury leather and spice smokes. I remember visiting Larry with you and he gave us a tour of his house and his cigar stock. Several large cabinets fully stocked desktops etc. I remember stating to Clive (Miner) that it was impressive but I reckon we have this covered as far stock goes. Larry opened a door and we walked into his walk-in humidor. Wow, so impressive and I kept quiet. Cigars from floor to ceiling with a host of stuff we had never seen before. He gave us a couple of Monte 4s with some serious age on them. We met PigFish that evening as well and some other FOH superstars. It was such a thrill. What an amazing person. 6
avaldes Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Yes but more so in the past. I kind of regret pounding that box of 2014 Cohiba Lanceros all those years ago! Same with the last box of Partagas 898's I bought back in 2017 before Cigarmageddon. But they sure were good Now that I said all that, my last two boxes of Mag 46's didn't last 6 months! I think I have a problem...
El Hoze Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Larry from Cali knows his sht. I do the same. -Larry from Florida (formerly New Jersey).
anacostiakat Posted January 20 Posted January 20 I have always done this. Especially as I tried to practice the two box rule when I could.
Popular Post Chibearsv Posted January 20 Popular Post Posted January 20 No rotation here, just a large variety. Every day is a new cigar decision. My hand certainly gravitates to the cigars that are smoking well though. So once that happens, they disappear quickly. I’m trying to retain the last couple cigars in great boxes as “break glass in case of emergency” smokes for when I need something special but I seem to need them very quickly 😁 6
Redgoldband Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Always tempted but my patience has prevailed. Focusing on getting more boxes to store this year, so I can foresee it being a real possibility if I luck up on something that hits. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Popular Post kaleehb Posted January 20 Popular Post Posted January 20 I will reach for them for them more frequently, however, my curiosity always says, “What if you leave them for a bit longer? They may get even BETTER!” It’s the inner gamble/game I play with my psyche. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose, most of the time I’m just plain crazy. 5
LeftOverTacos Posted January 20 Posted January 20 I usually smoke a few then switch it up. I’m always in pursuit of something new to me. I really appreciate revisiting a great cigar though. I’m pretty new to cigars been smoking for around 3 years. There is so much still new to me. 1
Lunettesman Posted January 20 Posted January 20 If I start a box that is on, it will be soon smoked. When I feel they are mind-blowing, I smoke through the box. 1
Tinny Posted January 20 Posted January 20 The smaller vitolas for sure, but it’s more due to the often limited time I have, it takes me a while to get through a box of anything larger than robusto.
MickVanWinkle Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Anything under $40/stick I go with the hot hand - which is why most all incoming is rested for at least a year. I have some restraint above that price point. 1
cigaraholic Posted January 21 Posted January 21 I’m pretty good about stretching a great box of cigars out for a long time. But about 30 years ago I was gifted a box from a friend of a friend who I had done a nice favor for, turns out he was good friends with the owner of the cigar shop I did business in Vancouver with for many years. Has to be the most memorable box of cigars I ever had, I think it lasted 23 days…I gave two away as gifts. 1
BG318 Posted January 21 Posted January 21 I am still figuring out the sweet spot for different cigars. Sometimes I hedge my bets by keeping ones too long that are better in their youth, and vice versa. So I have become schizophrenic in my approach. After ruining a few by smoking them too early, I begin to wait too long on others that would be better off younger, thus ruining them as well. Fortunately I have figured out a couple of best windows for consumption, and those, I blow through when the time is right. I'll save the last two for further aging to see if I missed anything.
LaoFan Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Have (almost had*) a box of '23 Wide Churchills that are smoking as good as anything right now. The viscosity on the smoke is wonderful. Beautiful draw. Almost went through the whole box in 2 months. 2
