Tinny Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Started smoking habanos in 2023, Trinidad is one of the last marcas not represented in my humidor, are they worth the current price ? And if so which vitola would best represent their profile?
HenryMartin Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Yes and it will be an exciting journey further into Habanos. My first Trinidad was a Reyes maybe ten years ago, its a popular Trinidad in a small vitola with high intensity. I then had a Vigia when they were released mid 2010s and recently a Topes. Both great cigars with large RG but I forgot how they compare given the similar sizes, perhaps a dear FOH can shed some light. If I am not mistaken both the Vigia and Topes were limited editions before they took off as active production, Habanos does this from time to time, almost as if to test for feedback before committing active production. I have yet to experience a Fundadores and look forward to the occasion for one random summer afternoon with great anticipation. 1
Popular Post Ford2112 Posted January 15 Popular Post Posted January 15 No. They are sitting on shelves everywhere. 7
LizardGizmo Posted January 15 Posted January 15 While I may enjoy them and rate them highly at times, I can’t imagine ever buying another box of Trinidad. In fact, I’m considering selling every box I have on BR. 3
Puros Y Vino Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Before the idiotic price hikes on the marca, they were a definite YES to explore. Now? Pass them by. If you must have one. The Fundadore and Coloniales are the best examples IMO. 3
Lfhard Posted January 15 Posted January 15 The only way to find out if it’s worth it or not is to try one out. Try to find some singles to try. If you like them based off the singles then it might be worth it in your eyes. To me the Esmeralda’s are and I would buy more once I get low on the supply I have. I love the fundadores but not sure if I love them enough for the price might change once I’m finished with my last box. Reyes are really good too but won’t buy more. Try a few singles then make that decision based off how you feel. 1
LaoFan Posted January 15 Posted January 15 I bought a couple boxes of Fundadores pre-price hikes and it's one of my favourite cigars. You're lucky if you nab a box for 25k RMB ($3,416 USD) these days in China. A bit too ridiculous. 2
gormag38 Posted January 15 Posted January 15 To join in the sentiment of other posts above mine; not worth the price tag anymore. Used to be one of the better deals in the Habanos world before things got crazy. If you can find some singes certainly jump on them to try them out, Coloniales and La Trovas are the standouts for me. But I will never buy another box of either simply due to the price. 1
Greenhorn2 Posted January 15 Posted January 15 It all depends on how you value your money. Fundadores are great cigars, but I'll not pay the price. The best Trinidad I have had was a SLE 2016 Vigia. Creamy, buttery smoke that reminded me of mushrooms sautéed in butter and popcorn. If I could buy those at $350 a box, I would jump all over them, but alas... 3
Blazer Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Guess it depends on your discretionary income. I was out of cigars for 5 years due to health issues. When I came back my first target was a box of Fundadores, until I saw the price hikes on them!😵 3
VeguerosMAN Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Trinidad, to me, was always 'meh' even before the price hike, so it's not worth it. 2
Namisgr11 Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Love Trinidad and their base flavor profile. I was fortunate to pick up Reyes and Coloniales before the price hike, and while I really like them both, I'm unlikely to ever get them again. Beyond that, I have a few aged Fundies picked up on Bond Roberts as a partial box and intended as a rare special occasion choice, and have a couple boxes of Esmeralda, another of my favorite cigars but one that's unlikely to be purchased again at >$55 a stick. Like others have mentioned, Habanos has essentially priced the brand out of what is reasonable for most smokers. Your mileage may vary. 2
Popular Post Chibearsv Posted January 15 Popular Post Posted January 15 "Are they worth it at the price?" is a personal question. They are very good cigars, especially with some years on them. If you've got enough discretionary cash, the value proposition is up to you. Sounds like you've got a decently stocked humidor, try using the Trading Room to see if anyone wants to trade a couple or a few. You'll probably have to go 2 or 3 to 1, depending on which Trini's are available, but that's a pretty economical way to see if a bigger spend is going to be "worth it" for you. 5
Tinny Posted January 15 Author Posted January 15 Appreciate the responses on here, I know it’s more of a personal question but I like to see what a general consensus is from people who already have purchased, I will have to get in the trading room once I have enough posts and trade for a couple singles to satisfy my curiosity and see if I like them enough to pull the trigger vs 2 or 3 boxes of a cigar I already enjoy (which would be pretty hard to do), haha. 1
SCgarman Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Simple answer NO. The first box I ever purchased from the host here was a 24 Reyes. In 2010 they were $158.00usd. Compare that price to now. BTW, I still have a few left in that box.
BrightonCorgi Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Robusto T is a fabulous cigar if you can find them. The small skinny Trini's do little for me. The later box code Fundi's are good. They seem to improve the blend over the years. The larger ring gauge cigars I find Trinidad does best. 1
