Not talking about lessons or attributes, rather the simple logistics of study. It was hard enough locating the right sources and references in library during the 90's, the thought of having to navigate misinformation and revisionist history I would of found to be another gut punch back in the day.

What I'm trying to say, is like the calculator allowed on your desk during a maths exam. They didn't say "you can use that...but don't use it too much!". Whereas kids these days are being asked to absorb another layer of mixed messaging and orientate around more dross information that I think previous generations did, and I feel for them.

I understand mate, I have family members struggling.

I know it is trite to many: Equanimity, loving kindness, tolerance, trust no one source of information, question god damn everything.

If it makes anyone feel any better, I am also in the “Terminator” camp. The U.S. military already has autonomous drones that can plan their own attack profiles. At what point do they determine that all humans are a threat?

I’ll be back…

Read the book "Prey" by Michael Crichton. It's about sentient nano-bots that wreak havoc on the Earth. Microscopic Terminators basically.

Add a dose of morality, and I believe that's called parenting. Maybe that's what is needed more. 🙄

What if their bias was not the only imposition you felt from that owner? The right wing (in general) are obsessed with the notion of being cancelled. What if the social media owner 'by name' put a target on your back that led to genuine death threats and increased security to your home and children. Elon Musk did this recently to Jess Phillips a serving MP in the UK government. An MP that has dedicated their political career to stop violence against women and children specifically. I think their bias, is the least we have to fear from these people.

I would agree with you that trust is damaged in governments. Until the threat of jail time in an actual reality for powerful people, all checks and balances are out the window. Lots of countries that consider themselves great democracies, look more like private members clubs at the moment. Nothing will change while the risk or punishment has been removed.

Didn't Tim Berners-Lee give away his work as an act of altruism. He wanted the internet to be tool of communication, efficiency. and collaboration. Where have these charitable, kind instincts gone? Do we not believe them possible anymore? or valuable?

I would trust my mayor Andy Burnham over Elon Musk any day. A decent person who has tirelessly fought for the victims of the Hillsborough disaster, given us cheaper more reliable transport in Manchester. Won record amounts of investment in Manchester. I think this comes back to my original point. If Elon Musk is a great tech boffin, and very talented at business/amassing wealth then great, but I do not think he is a model human being. I don't think he represents the best of the human condition in any way, and my concern is, is that this class or tech bros seek to socially engineer a society in their own image. If he Musk were solely the owner of a rocket and electric car company, I would have no issue with him whatsoever. Gladly, I think he seems far more likely to self implode before he can do anything too disastrous.

If you don’t want the powerful imposing on your life, I would suggest steering clear of socialism.

I was given some good advice once. Don’t worry about the ‘big ideas’.  Focus on home and family. Politics matter, but they shouldn’t affect your day to day life. I don’t like Amazon so I don’t use it, I do business locally whenever I can. It’s up to us to live in the way we think is best and lead by example. I too think the spirit of the internet has been corrupted and taken over by the tech bros, so I don’t use social media. Never have. Elon won’t hurt you and he won’t save me. Stay off twitter and don’t buy a Tesla and everything will be fine.

Regarding schools in the coming era, they will have to figure out a new way of grading performance. The AI times are upon us, no going back.

Tell that to my mortgage repayments. Tell that to the trains that don't run. Tell that to the police officers that won't attend my house if burgled. Tell that to the UK beaches that are full of human waste. Tell that to our heath system that has been kneecapped by privatisation. It's a complete fallacy to imagine politics doesn't follow you home.

Not supporting enterprises you feel to be morally bankrupt is a good step I would agree, but retreating to the concept of society where all will be well if I you take care of everything with your home and your family is also a fallacy (to me).  What about people with no family? What about homeless people? Disabled or elderly people with no point of care?

I hear what you're saying and I think it will genuinely come from a good place, so thank you, but unplugging, and just looking after me, and mine, is just a different version of a right wing utopia. i.e. everything beyond my garden gate, is secondary and or a potential threat. It's not the community I grew up in, and not the one I would seek to replicate in my own life.

Yes prioritise your family and friends, but I do not wish see society as a multitude of divided, conflicting self interests.

The good thing about socialism is that the endless complaining stops as everyone is on an equal footing,

Those socialism jokes…

I think you and I have different ideas of what we should expect from our government, and society and life, for that matter. Right wing utopia Perhaps. The real world? More likely. Yes, what is beyond my front door is secondary. There is nothing more important than my family. In addition to that, we need to recognize is that we have a personal responsibility to love our neighbor as it's been said. Acting on that responsibility fills in a lot of those gaps.

No animosity here my friend, just differences in opinion. At least we still have cigars!
