zeedubbya Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Ok so I had to post this, if not allowed mods please delete, but I think it’s relevant. I just watched a partial box of unicorns go off on BR, for what I would say, in today’s market is an absolute STEAL. Can someone adequately explain to me what happened here, for those who were watching? Here’s what I mean. The Tang Monarch is probably one of the top 3-4 most revered/desired/hunted cigars ever made. I’ve hunted for ONE to try for about 10 years, and I’ve had no luck. I’m not usually someone who chases this type of thing, but I did because of their legend! True true rarity—I’ve never seen a box come up in any auction until now. HOW, HOW can they go for the same price as a box of 2021 Espys? They were offered by a super super collector? @GTS21 !! From the ICC days?! They had to be stored absolutely perfectly! HOW.? Is double banded/Cohiba mania this high? Explanations/opinions please? **Why didn’t you buy them then? Having some health issues, which are turning out to be more expensive than anticipated…I AM OK, just expensive. Cigar budget is a bit tight, but I do regret not selling a bunch of other stuff OR finding some split partners, I thought for sure they would have went for double what they went for… 2
El Presidente Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Simply, the market is the market I would have jumped on them myself if permitted. Then again, I know of the cigar. I suspect 95% of the market does not. There are indeed great buys to be found on BR.

Voice of reason, of course. 95% of people saw an expensive partial box of H.Upmann. They’re just cigars right? Bundles of dead leaves. 😉
Marco_011t556 Posted January 6 Posted January 6 It's a great deal..I set my target price, and then slept. When I woke up, I sadly lost the bid. BR is absolute great platform for collectors/buyers to exchange. BTW, just noted GTS is our member LOL. 1

I saw 'em too, with enough scratch I would have been on them too, at that price. Unfortunately, I'm squeezed tighter than ever right now so I'm selling off cigars just to stay afloat. But I've always wanted to try a Tang Monarch too, so I know the feeling. Keep the dream alive, man - You'll get a stick to try someday!
GTS21 Posted January 6 Posted January 6 I was kinda surprised there wasn't more interest. One of the rarest cigars I've seen. Eric 3
tbabes Posted January 6 Posted January 6 I didn’t realize they were the fabled Tang Monarcas until I saw El Presidente’s post last week. 1
Ken Gargett Posted January 6 Posted January 6 not sure this helps all those who missed out but they are truly spectacular cigars. not many at all left in my box but wow!!! the last one i had was a few years ago. one of those nights you just want a basic, no-thinking cigar. think it was in front of the footy. had a box with a few mongrels and orphans in it. grabbed a small one (small for my preferences and perhaps not really that small) and fired up. about two puffs in, i remember thinking, what the hell is this. i had no idea as it had no band and was in amongst a mix of sizes and ages and shapes. about four puffs in, forgot the footy. i was in awe of it. but i had no idea. 100 points before it got out of bed. stunning. but what the hell was it? was still thinking about it a few days later when the penny dropped. i'd put together a mix for a fishing week and had included a Tang Monarch. had not got through them and just put them back without thinking (I've down the same with another legend, the 01 SLR DC). probably a couple of years later before i took it out. incredible cigars. 2
Ken Gargett Posted January 6 Posted January 6 i have no idea what the BR box went for but i bought my box (not even sure if i am allowed to post this and if not, could a mod more up to date than myself - i am far too busy with the big picture as yesterday's meeting will prove - just delete it) almost bang on 20 years ago for a tick over A$1,000. seemed outrageous to me at the time. 2
