MoeFOH Posted December 18 Posted December 18 That is the question!!... a topic as divisive as cats or dogs, Trapper or BJ, Smooth or Crunchy Peanut Butter, and one as mysterious as how they built the pyramids... Yep, "is Die Hard a Xmas movie?" has it all... Which camp are you in? Vote in the poll, discuss below...
Fuzz Posted December 18 Posted December 18 7 hours ago, Ford2112 said: It's an ACTION movie period. There are plenty of action movies that are also Christmas movies; Batman Returns, Invasion USA, Violent Night, Reindeer Games, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Die Hard 2, Lethal Weapon, The Last Boy Scout...the list goes on. A Christmas movie is any movie set during or around Christmas, has themes of tradition, family, coming together, forgiveness and redemption. 4 1
JermzCC Posted December 18 Posted December 18 My wife firmly believes the Harry Potter movies are Christmas movies due to their portrayal of them celebrating Christmas and having snow. If that is the bar she uses then Die Hard also is a Christmas movie! 1
Cigar Surgeon Posted December 18 Posted December 18 This Christmas John and his estranged wife Holly work to reconnect as they overcome internal and external conflicts at Holly's company Christmas party. 1
riderpride Posted December 19 Posted December 19 Super successful business woman finds time to rekindle love over the holidays...it's practically a Hallmark Christmas movie. 2
El Presidente Posted December 19 Posted December 19 Di would see John Wick (1/2/3/4/) as a Christmas movie 🙄 ...I will vote yes.

Ian McShane is an awesome enough actor to make that happen. I remember him crushing an early episode of Magnum PI. Vastly underrated talent. Cheers
BigGuns Posted December 19 Posted December 19 100000000000000000000% I'll say the same again next year, and throughout the year, when this inevitably comes up. The events of the movie wouldn't even occur if it were not for the raging Nakatomi Christmas party...The soundtrack..."It's Christmas, Theo, it's time for miracles"...I could write a dissertation on it, but I know I don't have to because the 3 of you (as of my vote) that voted "no" are surely just trolling to stimulate conversation. Yippee kai yay.... 1

Yippee kai yay.... my thoughts exactly. i'll say the same next year. because we flog this deceased equine annually. yes, it is a Christmas movie. no question. no room for doubt. harry potter movies are not Christmas movies. this is. and for the record, bruce willis is wrong. die hard is a Christmas movie. the correct poll here was - 1. are you one of those who know die hard is a Christmas movie? 2. are you wrong? 4
JohnS Posted December 19 Posted December 19 Yes, according to Bruce Willis: Getting straight to the point during his Comedy Central roast in 2018, Willis said: "Die Hard is not a Christmas movie." He continued: "It's a Bruce Willis movie so yippee-ki-yay to all you motherf**kers and good night!" Li Bai Posted December 19 Posted December 19 Well everything has been said, it is a Christmas movie and everybody knows it 1

BigGuns Posted December 19 Posted December 19 Yes, Mr. Willis is simply throwing his hat in with the others (now 5 of you?!) that are simply trolling. 1
joeypots Posted December 19 Posted December 19 If Die Hard is a Christmas movie so is The Godfather. 2

Chibearsv Posted December 20 Posted December 20 Am I looking for Die Hard around Christmas time as a Christmas movie to watch - No. Who sits with the whole family on Christmas Eve watching Die Hard? Is it a movie with Christmas as a major theme, yes...but it's not a Christmas movie in my book. 1 1
Fuzz Posted Sunday at 12:13 PM Posted Sunday at 12:13 PM Now let's see how Die Hard fits the criteria... It is set during Christmas John is flying to California to try an reconcile with his estranged wife and kids. Takagi showed kindness and generosity by sending a limo to pick up John There's some snow... mostly from Elias Hans Gruber unexpectedly arrives at the Christmas party There are warm, yellow or orange hues... from the explosions Not only does John redeem himself, but so too does Al when he is able to draw his gun and kill Karl It's intergenerational as I know a lot of people who watch Die Hard every Christmas with their family as a tradition The film evokes a sense of nostalgia considering it is 36 yrs old, not to mention car phones, CRT monitors, walkie talkies, bearer bonds, cutting phone line disrupts all communication, etc 2
