Al Aliya Cigar Lounge - Doha, Qatar December 17, 2024 - Simon Lundh With a growing community of cigar passionados in Qatar, in 2023 the prestigious Sanad Club in Msheireb decided to open a cigar lounge on its grounds. Al Aliya is a private member’s club, but it invites guests of the members to experience the somewhat unusual atmosphere of the place. “With its high ceiling, it’s more vibrant than your typical cigar lounge, with multicolored leather seats and sofas creating a unique ambiance and a cozy, relaxing experience,” Anthony Kharrat certified cigar sommelier, humidor manager and national judge of the Cigar Smoking World Championship in Qatar, says. Also standing out, is the state-of-the-art humidor cabinets, he says. “They were designed to showcase the craftsmanship found in the cigar production. These cabinets were made to showcase the cigars in a similar way of a jewelry shop, where you can find fine jewels displayed in a luxurious set up. Additional leather wrapped cabinets with complete cedar wood drawers are also provided for the members.” Besides the indoor seating area Al Aliya also has an amazing terrace, and since the opening the lounge has been a host to a number of different kinds of events. “We host curated monthly tasting events, exclusive competitions and partnerships with renowned international figures in the cigar world,” Kharrat explains. In the first year of business they’ve had a long ash competition, tasting and pairing events and a live tasting session of the Pony Express Cigar with Jeremy Casdagli, among others.
