Arturo Fuente’s OpusX 2020 Gets One-Time U.S. Release

In December, Arturo Fuente oftentimes sends its retailers a special, surprise release as part of the holiday season. This year, that tradition will continue with what is being described as a one-time U.S. release of the OpusX 2020.

The Fuente Fuente OpusX 2020 was created for the United Arab Emirates’ Expo 2020 and has been exclusive for the UAE ever since, or at least until now. The OpusX 2020 is made entirely of tobacco from the Dominican Republic, including tobacco from the company’s Chateau de la Fuente farm. Fuente does not disclose the exact differences between this blend and the regular OpusX blend, which is also a Dominican puro.

It is offered in three vitolas:

• Fuente Fuente OpusX 2020 Arena d’Amor (5 x 52) — $35.90 (Box of 20, $718)
• Fuente Fuente OpusX 2020 Sol d’Amor (6 1/8 x 55) — $37.65 (Box of 20, $753)
• Fuente Fuente OpusX 2020 Viento d’Amor (6 x 58) — $39.85 (Box of 20, $797)

While this is substantially more than the regular OpusX line, these MSRPs are actually less than prices that were charged in Dubai when the cigars debuted. It’s unclear how many boxes retailers will receive, though December surprise shipments are typically pretty small, sometimes as little as one box per SKU.

“In gratitude for your unwavering support during the year as an authorized Fuente Fuente OpusX retailer, and to bring our fans to your store, we are releasing some extremely rare and unique cigars,” said Carlos “Carlito” Fuente Jr., in a letter that will be sent to retailers. “The Fuente Fuente OpusX 2020, also known by aficionados as the ‘Opus Dubai,’ will be a very special treat for your customers. This is the one and only time I think we will release these cigars in the United States.”

Rare Fuente Fuente OpusX Dubai Coming to U.S.

All OpusX cigars are rare, but some are far harder to get than others. The Fuente Fuente OpusX 2020, a special line of Fuente cigars that’s better known as the “OpusX Dubai,” is coming to the United States.

“Since their launch, we have never sold these cigars outside of Dubai,” Carlos Fuente Jr. wrote in a letter to authorized OpusX retailers, which he shared with Cigar Aficionado. “This is the one and only time I think we will release these cigars in the United States.”

The cigars are expected to arrive in stores on Monday and come in three sizes: Sol d’Amor (toro), Viento d’Amor (toro gordo) and Arena d’Amor (robusto).

The cigars are colorful, the boxes and bands emblazoned with red, green and gold, combining the core design pattern of the OpusX symbol with the colors of the flag of the United Arab Emirates, where Dubai is located. The cigars themselves have cedar wrapping the bottom two-thirds of the cigar, with silver foot bands. 

When asked about the prices of the cigars, Fuente said it would be left to the retailer. “There is no real suggested retail price,” he says. Various sources sell these online for upwards of $100 per cigar.
