So having a smoke with a friend at my favourite riverside spot last night. He tells me to try some Drew Estate thing. Something rose is all I remember. Had a sweetened tip. First time I’ve tried a sweetened tip. Got me thinking. How much does the taste of the cigar on your lips impact the flavour you get out of the smoke? I honestly felt the cigar smoke was average but the taste on the lips was alright and kinda made the overall flavour better 🫣🤔

Who's tried sweet tipped cigars and did you find they added something to the experience?

I wonder if smoking some garbage cigar and licking a lollipop would make the cigar better 😂

I've smoked dozens of AF Short Story and I feel the same sweetness on the lips you talk about, I assume it's the glue they use 🤔 Pretty sure it has a big influence but I would need to smoke one rolled with a more neutral glue to be sure.

I like the Short Story but I don't seek after them, they're too expensive here and that added sweetness ended up bothering me a bit.

I remember the Dunbarton Sobremesa Brulee had some controversy around people thinking it had a sweetened tip. Seems a lot like it did but as commented above the glue used might be a factor.

I think the Cameroon wrapper may play a part here. It’s my favorite afternoon smoke. A bit sweet and not overpowering.

Actually I'm very curious about those things so I tasted a bit of the glue found on the band, it was very sweet so I didn't feel the need to dig deeper. Anyway, I don't know much about Cameroon wrappers, tbh. 😅

Hamlet had no problem in Cuba putting a selection of quick rolls into a humidor that held a Cuban rum mix in a glass. It was an occasional indulgence.

They were fine. One dimensional however. No hint of complexity or a journey.

Pass for me.

Those Swishers sound awful. I wonder who the target audience is?!

I think younger people. I definitely smoked my fair share of the grape Swishers when I was 18/19. Maybe the times have changed but back then we didn't drink malt whiskies or fine spirits neat, we'd have flavored vodkas mixed with something or cheap beers. Similarly, we didn't smoke proper cigars, but it wasn't uncommon for people to smoke Swishers or Black n' Milds outside after a party.

Grab one, the Hemingway line from AF is really great. Those Short Stories are sugar bombs.

When I worked at a B&M in Miami we'd have chests of some cheap house-brand cigars with glasses of Havana Club in them. The chests smelt great but the flavor didn't really infuse into the tobacco IMO. At El Titan de Bronze I once saw a bottle of Macallan 18 and I asked them what it was for and they said they had a client who wanted his cigars rested in a chest with the whisky like that too. A waste of some good whisky if you ask me.

Oh, I've smoked two boxes of those a couple of years ago. I like them, but imo they're not good value for money anymore here in France, plus that "sugar bomb" thing (I very much agree with it) became a bit boring, but that's just me of course.

Sweet tip insofar as artifical sweetener is extremely off-putting for me. The same reason I can't stand diet pop or candy with artifical sweeteners.

For whatever reason my taste buds interpret it as a very artifical, chemically lingering flavor that is not enjoyable.

That's also why when there was a certain controversy with a certain cigar I felt reasonably confident on what side of the controversy I landed on.

Drew Estate makes the Laruntan Dirts which is the same blend as the others minus the sweet cap. I enjoy them more.

Unfortunately not. Very hard for me to get my hands on limited release stuff up in Canada unless Aaron at DP snaps it up in our review cycle.

I would have enjoyed working through them to see how they compared. Lanceros can be very hit and miss for NCs.
