Popular Post Chibearsv Posted January 25 Popular Post Posted January 25 CoRo This is an odd looking CoRo. The band is very loose over a pale and bumpy wrapper and the foot is cut on a slight angle. Not what I would expect from Cohiba. Cold aroma is green hay and simple syrup both very subdued, but there. I gave it a small punch cut, tested the draw, perfect, and fired it up. Open was barnyard, and white pepper. I was thinking at this time, "did Prez switch out a Hoyo here just to see if I was paying attention?", but of course, he would never do that. 1st third - I slowed down my draws and the pepper fades and slightly sweetened coffee and cream emerges. Barnyard in the background. This is more of what I expect Cohiba to deliver. But still a little peppery or hot. Perhaps this is a younger cigar although the loose wrapper makes me think otherwise. 2nd third and finish - No big changes at all. This cigar remained consistent with a little pepper, a little barnyard funk, slight sweetness, coffee, and cream. Very enjoyable but no more than plenty of other choices that I could have for a lot less. I give it a B, above average, not exceptional. 8
Tunkat92 Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Montecristo 1 Unfortunately, I cannot get my picture to upload. Its just black. Cold Draw: Some cocoa notes but not much going on. The draw seem pretty tight but not plugged. 1/3: Cocoa, coffee with cream, a touch of Cuban twang. Im also get a fresh flavor at the end, maybe mint. Note a lot of smoke production but enough to keep me happy. 2/3: Cocoa and coffee notes have gotten a touch darker, some cedar is starting to show. The profile has gotten a little sweeter and really rounded out. The draw has opened up some more and has better smoke production. 3/3: Cocoa, bitter coffee, cedar. No sweetness to be found. Unfortunately my cigar decided to self destruct halfway into the final third and it was time to put her down. Final Thoughts: I enjoyed this cigar, I knew it was Monte DNA but still unique. Great balance of coffee and cocoa and a fairly consistent profile throughout. A cigar doesn’t need a complex profile when it delivers the basics. Minus the cigar wrapper blowing up near the end I rate this 90/100 4
Popular Post Chibearsv Posted January 26 Popular Post Posted January 26 VR Unicos - lost the label on this one somewhere. Good looking cigar smooth medium brown wrapper. Aroma at cold is milk chocolate and nothing else. Open, first, second, final thirds all identical. This was a one dimensional cigar which isn't a deal breaker for me in the cigar world. If it's a tasty cigar, one dimension is just fine by me. This cigar wasn't awful (I usually don't find any cigar awful) but it certainly didn't shine. Flavors of damp newspaper, salt, and slight dark mud. Never changed in flavors or strength. Produced plenty of smoke and burned just fine. I wouldn't seek these out to buy for myself but if someone handed me one, I'd smoke it Rating D - Passing grade but nothing more than that. 7 1
Popular Post Chucko8 Posted January 26 Popular Post Posted January 26 Trini Coloniales 1/3 Superb start coffee, cookie, cocoa and salty butter are my takeaways. 2/3 continues similar to begin, then there is a change with the coffee being more like a tea flavour. I like tea so this is nice, I do find tea flavour in the fundi also. An earthy presence starts to come in. Further on and the tea flavour becomes quite tannic and the earthiness becomes gravely. The cigar feels heavy and wet. It’s becoming laboured on the draw. Last 3rd cigar it has become difficult to keep it alight. Tried manipulating it a bit but only getting some sporadic hits of goodness, majority wet tannic gravel. A shame and have to let it go. After such a bright start, the first half of the cigar was a delight. Unfortunately the 2nd half didn’t live up to the hype. Overall a story of 2 tales resulted in a score of 88! 6
