Now this was a topic of our industry dinner earlier in the week. I (because I am full of it), put forward a figure that raised eyebrows. I have a fair idea but I did say I would put it to a FOH poll and pass on the details.

I could complicate the question and introduce dollar spends but that is not the point of the exercise.

From the hip. No need to go back and look at invoices ;)

I’m in the same category both times (80-100%).

Pre 2022 was 99% Cubans and some Davidoff that I quite enjoyed. I couldn’t find anything else worth trying for a second time.

2024 is probably close to 80% Cubans. Other 20% is mostly nudie / mofoh / br to be honest (suck up).

I’ve bought so many NC's in the last 2 years that I’ve migrated back to CC’s. Lots of Nudies and Padron more recently all Cuban.

I got into cigars within the last 2 years and Cubans last year so my poll was probably an outlier. If I could do it all again I would’ve bought Cubans when prices weren’t insane but alas you can’t choose when you find a hobby.

Only the releases of the Nudie line items have moved the needle at all, from 96% CC down to about 86%.

NC''S remain, for me, still a case of too many swings and too many misses. The occasions where I want to have a smoke and am willing to take a chance of wasting my leisure time grow fewer with each unsatisfying smoke.

Pre 2020 I was buying damn near exclusively CCs. Maybe a single here and there from my local B&M but that's it. After the price explosions I have certainly reduced the number of CCs I'm purchasing, and have off set it some with NCs. Mostly though I just slowed my buying. Luckily enough I built up enough of a stash (for myself that is) where I don't need to purchase at a high rate to smoke.

Been going hard on Nicaragua offerings due to accessibility, quality and cost.  But CCs make up 25-30% of the rotation and I don’t know if it’s placebo but I do prefer them.

I have only ever bought Cubans. That was a decision when I got into cigars to limit the number of producers and areas I would need become knowledgeable in to consider myself reasonably informed. What I found out is there is lifetime's of knowledge in that niche so I never expanded beyond CCs. Luckily I have no concerns with smoking thru my stock so my buying has just slowed to a crawl, similar to my smoking pace probably.

In the last 24 months or so, I discovered I really like some of what Davidoff has to offer...this has impacted my CC buys just a bit, but I’m not saving any money.

I was almost purely CC’s up until 2 years ago. Then went on a big NC pilgrimage. Found some NC’s I liked but nothing really from the cheap and cheerful range, and apart from a few great NCs, left me feeling like something was missing from the taste profile. Decided it wasn’t going to save me any money or replace CC’s so back buying albeit at a much slower rate.

Main changes are there’s some staple NCs in the humidor now, I rarely smoke Cubans at golf anymore and if I’m handing out cigars it’s NCs I enjoy (with the usual caveat of unless it’s close mates or people who know and appreciate what they’re smoking)…
