I am going to run this poll series over my current rotation cigars. We can expand from there.

If these cigars are in your rotation, please take part. Let's define rotation as  a cigar that is smoked at least once every four  months ;)

In terms of ratings, live with the points system as put forward. Some members use stars, others have a 10 point assessment process, others use bananas.......it doesn't really matter....just adapt as best you can. :ok:

Partagas Serie D Number 4

D4.

Some like them aged. Some pine for the D4 from the 90's.

Some have never got the cigar.

Some believe the D4 of the past few years (21/22/23) are some of the most consistent cigars coming out of Cuba.

I am in the last category. Today they are a staple in my rotation. Rating wise however? Well, I will leave that up to you.

We will keep a list of the final rankings. :cigar:

Consistently 91 to 93 for me. Yes, some have been 94+. I don't really recall 'duds' that I've wanted to pitch in recent times.

For me 88-90 only because when I purchased singles they were always stellar and when I would purchase boxes they were always only average.

I came here to say this.  So many mediocre boxes over the years.  So many incredible singles.

I’ve never had a D4 that made it to excellent. Good/ very good. 88-90 as well.

88-90 for me too.  I'd give the higher opinions of them with some age on them but I'd say 90 is generally where they hit.  No real clunkers but never really a "wow" moment either.

I’ve had one Jesus box, and lots of good ones. Strong contender for ‘if you could only pay for and smoke one cigar’.

90-92 mostly, 95-97 sometimes where it makes me question every other Robusto.

The recent years that I have been partaking in from 21/22 have been in the 91-93 range. Very consistent

This is a cigar that I used to smoke weekly 20 years ago. And then I kinda forgot about them, so I dug out a 2004 box and found it contained one last cigar. Up in smoke it went, and I now remember. I guess I need to get some recent examples!

Over the last 20 years this cigar has gotten better and better. Really stood the test of time as a sure fire bet.

It’s one of the few Cuban cigars that I think shines relatively young. I don’t recall much about the first ones I had but starting with a ’19 box they got good.

Consistent winner in the last few years. One of the few CCs I still order from time to time.

@wathabanos will attest as we’ve smoked a couple together - it may be because I’ve never had the privilege of smoking one with more than 5 or 6 years on it, but I just don’t get the hype. As far as the robusto vitola goes, I’d much rather an Edmundo or a RASS. The D4 rates a mid 80s for me.

Staple in my rotation. Very consistent in the past 5 years or so… occasionally excellent. I would say the best robusto available, which is a high bar to meet in Cubans!

Box with almost 10yr all have been 95+. Hoping my box from 2018 will be the same killers. Newer ones 2019 & 2020 - low 90’s.

Most consistent out of all Robustos, possibly out of the entire CC portfolio. However they rarely break that 93+ for me. They are usually solid 90s everyday with the occasional 91/92 and the very rare 95+. Really can not complain about that at all.

I always wondered if the notes associated with the D#4 (Partagas in general) are found in a larger percentage of leaf making the reliability what it is. On the otherhand take something like the cherry in RyJ and maybe a tiny percentage of leaf have that note making it difficult/rare to find in a cigar leading to the well known "inconsistent RyJ" remarks. As there appears to be an external cause leading to this consistency outside of the normal QC/production. Would love to hear a blender/grower's opinions on this.

My current PSD 4 has a box code of ABO DIC 18. Has been stellar, solid 91-93 with the occasional tickling 95. I bought it in frankfurt airport in 2019. Went through all 10 or so boxes and found the oiliest and aromatic box. I remember thinking to myself I could do this all day sorting boxes into PSP etc categories when that was still a thing. It was the first box I purchased that I could actually pick myself and not just bought form a vendor FOH.

I find it interesting how solid PSD4 are for such a mass produced cigar.

Love PSD4 and would put them in my forever rotation along with PLPC, CoRo, Choix Supremes and Connie 1.
