Pick the three you believe to be the largest manufaturers of hand rolled cigars?

If you feel up to it, have a crack at listing them on this thread  1-8  ;)

Posted

1. Davidoff

2. Plasencia

3. Arturo Fuente

4. Rocky Patel

5. Drew Estate

6. Oliva

7. Padron

I didn’t include Habanos as they don’t produce/make cigars, they export them. Cubatobaco makes the cigars (~100 million).

Let's work backwards.

In 8th we have Padron with approximately 8 million cigars per annum.

1.) HSA 100M ( @cgoodrich has good point, but for sake of this I think it makes sense that HSA is a producer here)…

2.) Davidoff 50M

3.) Fuente ~30M

4.)  Drew ~30M

5.)  Rocky Patel ~30M

6.)  Plascencia ~30M

7.)  Olivia ~15M

8.) Padrón ~10M

these are just best guesses with no help from Google, I already had part of it written out before El Prez said Padrón at 8M.

7. Rocky Patel  (20 Million "ish)

8. Padron          ( < 5 Million cigars "ish).

I'm surprised I expected Rocky to be higher he has so many bloody SKUs

Hat's off to him. Rocky started his own line as we know it today in 2003.

That is some serious growth. ;)

I agree its an impressive story of someone who battled quite a bit of adversity.

Fuente, Placensia, Davidoff. I am including Davidoff if you count the cigars made by all the affiliated entities/factories, or maybe they are all under Davidoff??? Idk. I would have initially guessed Rocky to make the top 3.

Would have figured Fuente in the top 3

Drew Estate rolls 200,000+ cigars a day.  A day. They were producing 25M a year a decade ago.

1. HSA, this doesn't really count because it's an entire country of production.

2. Drew Estate

3. Davidoff

4. Oliva (40M or so with all their factories)

5. A. Fuente

6. Plasencia

7. Rocky Patel (assuming all their factories)

8. Padron (they're way smaller than people think)

I knew Drew Estate was huge because of their flavored stuff. But I’m flummoxed because I don’t know of one really good Drew Estate traditional cigar. Are there any that they didn’t acquire through acquisition? (I’m not a big fan of Liga Privada).

I would have thought Padron and Fuente were pushing out more than that.

I'm curious if the Fuente figures were impacted by the barn fire 18 months ago, or was that stock too young 🤔

Cheers!

Drew Estate hasn't acquired anyone and the Swisher acquisition of Drew Estate was targeted based on their premium handmade cigars.

I'm a fan of the Undercrown, specifically in the Corona Viva vitola. Herrera Esteli Lonsdale is a standout. Liga Privada L40.

Undercrowns are ok. I also like Liga series but I find it way overrated for its price and the laurels it receives from its following.

Doubtful. A huge operation like Fuente has multiple tobacco barns, as you never want all your inventory under one roof because of events like the fire. They said the fire would not affect overall production, and business continues on.

Got DE, but would have thought with all their lines Fuente and Patel would have been within the top few.
