I really don't know what it is, but the 996's have REALLY been attracting my attention. I'd love to get a 996 carrera s with the oem aero kit. Maybe put some BBS E88's on it. 996 has been such a slept on 911 for so long. Glad people are coming around to appreciate them. Beautiful car man

Absolutely. I love driving it and working on it. It’s the very first gen they did right after the 993 so you still have things like a manual cable from the gas peddle to the throttle. Great cars!

Amazon has done a lot make sure Rivian is a viable company.  I see a lot of Rivian's in my locale.

I wish I could say the same about Lucid.  A friend of mine is the Northeast Service Manager.  All the cars from NJ North are serviced at his facility.

My area in Florida has a lot of Rivians, more the R1S, I see a lot in Colorado as well. I was in Seattle recently seemed like they were everywhere. My brother in law has a Lucid. It is actually a really nice driving car you feel like you’re on a cloud but the aesthetics on it. Ugh. I could never do it. I love the lines on the Rivian and have gotten used to the quirky looking headlights.

Rj is my parents neighbor at his house in Illinois. I am from Bloomington and I am looking at employment there when I seperate from the Military next year. Cool brand, cool people. My brother has a R1T and he has loved it, back seats kind of suck though to be honest. I am 6'2" and my head hits the ceiling over every bump.

I am 6 foot and have only sat in the back seat for short periods…up front I find it nice and roomy. Thank you for your service!

I rode from Chicago to Bloomington IL (about 2 hours) in the back and I think my dad's 2004 crew cab chevy had better seats in the back lol. Honestly a super small and easy change to be made, I am sure the R1S has better rear seats. I greatly appreciate the support, very new here and to the cuban community. FOH seems to be chalked full of good and kind people. Very happy to be here

Beautiful! So great to see another 911 in this thread! How many miles on her?

Just shy of 80K.

Second owner (had it for 25 years).

Last of a generation, in terms of the air/oil cooled, G50, synchro mesh.

Use to race in historic class (PCA)...a lot of fun on the track!

I am digging the looks of the Lucid. The windshield is a hoot, and lighting makes a distinct profile in the dark. I am not sure if it is selling well around here or it's due to the service center being local. The audio system is wild inside. Be curious to see how their lower priced SUV will be received in the market.

One neat thing on the Lucid is if your car needs service, they swap it out with another Lucid while they service your car.

I'm also a huge fan of all wheel drive cars.  Just had a friend hydro-plane and lose control of  his 600 hp Mustang; flipping it several times and dying on the side of the rode during one of our infamous Florida downpours.

So, my requirements are must be, low, fast, AWD, stick and a lot of fun to drive.  Trying to keep the entire package around $60K as it's a project car.  For the car group out there -- anything else I should be researching?  Thanks!

Sorry to hear about your friend.

For AWD and manual, how about some sort of Porsche 911 C4? Also a boxer engine like the Subaru.

So sorry to hear about your friend. If you're looking for fast, stick, elegant, and collectible I would go either 996 or 997 turbo. 997 Turbo would be my preference but they are gorgeous cars with amazing driver response. Fast fun and truly timeless cars.

-100k ish for a 997 manual

-50-60k for a 996 manual

Based on your suggestion, I went looking.  Clearly, I needed to get on the 997 Turbo bandwagon several years ago. Any with the stick are going north of $140K. If it's got the Porsche auto - those are more in the 50 to $60K range. Still thinking about the 996 suggestion but, once you see the reviews on the turbo it's hard to look away again. Just more than I wanted to spend.

Posted this a few years ago - this is my baby!  Ordered her and took the almost 2 year wait to get her the way I wanted her.  Sapphire metallic blue with a saffron interior, olive-ash custom wood inserts and dark blue cross-stitching.  Still a good looking 2008 12 cyl. GTC at 586 hp with slightly more than 36K miles on her.  She's been a good car only requiring a new roof cover and new front air bags so far...

The daily driver is a 2021 Ram 4x4 1500 Limited with the Hemi at 410 hp. Immense amount of room and rides as comfortable as the Bentley.

Been toying with the idea (and doing a lot of research) on buying a 2016 to 2021 Subaru WRX STI.  Would do an engine swap to the AIG Closed Block, Pro-tune and modify up to ~ 400 whp.  I would really like to get back to the days of driving a very fun stick shift.  I wouldn't "track her" but just as a fun driver and a contrast to the other two vehicles.  My wife thinks I'm nuts for wanting to work on cars again in the garage.  I'm also a huge fan of all wheel drive cars.  Just had a friend hydro-plane and lose control of  his 600 hp Mustang; flipping it several times and dying on the side of the rode during one of our infamous Florida downpours.

WRX of that era is not hard to build to 400 and doesn’t require a new block at 400. My son’s is right at 400 and no change to the block / pistons / rods. FMIC, turbo, down pipe, some other stuff I can’t recall and at 400 although I think it ultimately was at 400 with e85 on a flex fuel tune. Not positive if it made that with 93. I can get more details if you want details.

I currently drive a 2024 Panamera 4. I'm loving it. I can raise and lower the car at will. In regular mode, it drives like a luxury car, and in sport mode or sport plus mode, it's like driving a completely different car.  I have been driving SUVs for the last 10 years, so this is a nice change. I'm begrudgingly "allowed" to get a 911 after my youngest kid goes off to college in 3 years, but I've got to say, I am loving the options this car gives me that the 911 won't. I may just end up getting the Turbo S E-Hybrid Panamera instead.

I loved my 911s. Give one a go next time. You can always go back to the Panamera.

Maybe slightly against the grain but In my experience I would steer you away from the Turbo. Long time petrol head been through M3, Z4 Mcoupe, M4, R8 V8, 3 x R8 V10’s (loved it THAT much), 458 Italia, 911.2 Turbo, Cayenne GTS, Lambo SVJ, 3 x 2023 Bentayga (faulty piece of shit, don’t ask!) and currently in love with my Urus with an SE en route.

Moving from the 458 to the Turbo was a stark realisation into how soulless a Turbocharged car can be. Lightning quick, amazing handling and brakes etc, but zero soul imho. If you’re looking for something stick then my guess you want a “drivers car”.

Try to go NA if you can..

Honestly I couldn't agree more, my E46 and E90 M3's are NA and they're some of the best sounding and feeling cars ever. Love the S54/S65 combo. Someday I'll manual swap a 360 or 430 ;)

^+1 to that. I'd definitely suggest getting a naturally aspirated car while they are still being made.  We will have decades in the future to drive turbo/hybrid/electric cars, get that flat 6/v8/v10/v12 while you can! 🙂

I'm finding this thread interesting. I googled NA and figured out it means Naturally Aspirated, which I understand to mean, the air intake is purely based on the need created by the engine (whereas a Turbo or Super charger forces air). Why does this result in a different driving experience?

Car people talk about NA cars having a liner response - a throttle input has an immediate and proportional impact on acceleration. NA motors are much more linear than turbo/supercharged motors. Part of that is because a big NA motor will tend to have more torque at low RPM than a turbocharged motor of equivalent peak HP, and another part is because turbo/superchargers take time to build up pressure to produce power. Turbo/supercharged motors do make more power at peak RPM, which is good for racing, but most street driving takes places at relatively low RPM.

With that advice, I'd go for Aston Martin Vantage V12S with a dogleg manual 7speed.

NA cars have this liveliness, they have a howling induction noise that cannot be replicated by a turbo or supercharged car. Especially if it has individual throttle bodies. @GVan I would also look into well taken care of lower mileage E92 or E90 M3's. You can get a sub 50k mile one with a manual and good service history for 35-50k depending on your spec. Can't really go wrong with a 415hp V8 with a 6 speed behind it that revs to 8400rpm from the factory.

Also note that AWD doesn’t stop you from hydroplaning. Handling is definitely better in all weather of course.

If you’re set in AWD then only 911 or Audi R8 will hit the spot I think? There’s always an Audi RS-anything, Skyline GTR or Subaru but that’s ruled out by the “low” requirement?!
