Davidoff has announced that its most premium offering to date, the Davidoff Oro Blanco Special Reserve 111 Years, will launch on October 17th. It will cost $750.00 per cigar or $7,500 per ten-count box.

This morning, Davidoff announced the Davidoff Oro Blanco Special Reserve 111 Years. When Davidoff announced the cigar to the media, it did not disclose the pricing. Multiple retailers confirmed the $750.00 price point per cigar to Cigar Coop.

The Oro Blanco Special Reserve 111 Years is a Dominican Puro. The binder and each filler are at least 17 years old, including one that has not been used in a Davidoff cigar before and that was grown in an area that Davidoff no longer cultivates. For all the tobaccos combined, the Dominican puro is 111 years old. It is only rolled by Davidoff Master Roller supervisors with at least 20 years of experience.

I’ve smoked the Oro Blanco. It was very good but not mind-blowing.

But this is the one with 111 years of combined aging! Or is 111 years your projected time in the doghouse after your SO finds the box on your CC statement? I forget.

I guess it was how I was raised, but I would actually be embarrassed smoking a $750 cigar (especially one which is well-known solely for that fact), at least in public. That’s not a judgement on those who buy these - and I’m sure someone will, though I recall seeing the original Oro Blanco’s sitting on the grey market at a discount (still like $400 a stick though).

Will @Cigar Surgeon or DP be reviewing this?

I’m in the same camp. Wild money. Whiskey has gone same way here and puts me off. I can’t help ask myself - what would I prefer - one of these, or say a box and a half of JL2?

$750 Davidoff Oro Blanco Special Reserve 111 Years Shipping This Month

In 2014, Davidoff introduced a true halo cigar for its portfolio: Davidoff Oro Blanco. That cigar was a 6 x 54 toro extra made entirely of Dominican tobacco from the 2000 and 2001 harvests that had been aged for at least a dozen years. The cigars were rolled exclusively by supervisors and each was inspected by Eladio Díaz, then Davidoff’s head of production. To top it off, the cigars had an MSRP of $500 each.

Over the last few years, there’s been consistent chatter that the original Oro Blanco would be going away and replaced by a new format. Davidoff says that the tobacco used for the original Oro Blanco is almost gone, so today, the company has unveiled the new version: Davidoff Oro Blanco Special Reserve 111 Years. It has an MSRP of $750 per cigar.

It is still a 6 x 54 toro extra that is made entirely of Dominican tobacco. The company says the 111 refers to 111 years, the combined age of the tobaccos used for the cigar. All the fillers and the binder are aged for at least 17 years and at least one of the tobaccos used has never been used in a Davidoff cigar before.

The new Oro Blanco Special Reserve 111 Years will go on sale in two weeks, but Davidoff is explicitly not talking about its price. When asked, an employee declined to comment. Given the eye-popping price of the previous Oro Blanco—$500 in 2014, but later increased to $600 per cigar—but retailers have listed the cigar at $750 per cigar or $7,500 per box of 10. Part of marketing the Oro Blanco as a halo product—a cigar positioned above the Royal Salomones or other limited editions—was its outlier price.

A press release says it will go on sale beginning Oct. 17, 2024 at Davidoff appointed merchants, i.e. independent stores, as well as Davidoff’s own flagship stores.

“The new Davidoff Oro Blanco blend is composed with the finest and most aged tobaccos in the industry,” said Edward Simon, cmo of Oettinger Davidoff, in a press release. “The binder and each filler are at least 17 years old, including one that we have never used in a Davidoff cigar before, and that was grown in an area that we no longer cultivate. All tobaccos combined, the Dominican puro is an impressive 111 years old. It is only rolled by our Master Roller supervisors with at least 20 years of experience and is only released when our Master Blenders deem it ready to be enjoyed. I am proud to declare the Oro Blanco Special Reserve 111 Years our rarest cigar to date,”

The packaging has been updated but remains quite similar to the original Oro Blanco. It is offered in two different packaging options: a 10-count box that has a slide-out tray or a single cigar coffin that has a similar slide-out feature.

The bands are a modified version of Davidoff’s standard white label band, though they feature silver accents. That’s a reference to the cigar’s name, which is Spanish for white gold. Davidoff says the wood grain is designed to look like a tobacco leaf while also still showing the sunrise motif that was part of the inspiration for the original Oro Blanco blend.

At least buyers will have a nice small coffin in which to place their dignity.

Or regrets.

I was gifted one of the original Oro Blanco by a senior person at Davidoff DR who is no longer with them. My expectations were fairly balanced and I was still completely underwhelmed. In fact, I have tried a few of the Davidoff Royal Release Robusto and Salamones, which I think are in the $100+ zipcode and I much preferred them even if price was not a consideration.

If I think about this cigar relative to what you could buy for $750 a stick in the CC world it really is a joke. Habanos actually looks reasonable somehow.

I will also say on the initial release it was marketed heavily that Eladio Diaz was the “mastermind” behind the entire Oro Blanco project, every detail was under his control, and he left Davidoff in 2021 I believe (he was not the one who gave me the cigar, never met him).

How many Nudies can I buy with $750?

I was gifted one on NYE.  Despite my palate being already fried from multiple cigars, champagne and brandy, he insisted I light up with him. It was a very good cigar that tasted of cedar, milk chocolate, salt and hints of burnt sugar plus the draw was perfect. I'm sure the environment, booze and the fact I didn't pay for it added to the experience however, I don't think I would purchase one at this 750 dollar price point. For comparison. I have smoked several of the Royal Release Robustos which I very much enjoyed and I don't have an issue for that price point particularly when found at a discount. The person who gave the Oro Blanco to me has zero concerns about the price of things.
