Fuente Fuente OpusX Society Cigar Launching in Miami Next Month

Date: 09/19/2024 - Author: Inspector X

A new, exclusive Fuente Fuente OpusX cigar will debut at a launch party in Miami next month, crafted specifically for retailers who carry OpusX Society products—a high-end lifestyle brand offering Fuente-branded items like ashtrays, cutters, and lighters. The OpusX Society was founded by designer and longtime Fuente collaborator, Manny Iriarte.

The first glimpse of this cigar came last year at the PCA trade show, where it was displayed but not sampled, with few details revealed. However, fans will have the chance to experience it on October 19 at a glamorous cocktail event hosted by Tabacón Cigars & Spirits in Miami. Both Iriarte and Carlos “Carlito” Fuente Jr. will be in attendance.

Fuente Fuente OpusX cigars are already rare, produced in limited quantities and sporadically released after an extensive aging process. The brand is known for high scores in tastings and has won numerous awards.

Officially named the Fuente Fuente OpusX Edición de la Sociedad, this new release measures 6 1/4 inches with a 49 ring gauge. It comes at a premium price of $90 per cigar or $1,800 for a 20-count box. Although there’s no confirmed shipping date to OpusX Society retailers nationwide, Iriarte states there are 268 retailers in total.

Carlos Fuente Jr. is keeping blend specifics under wraps, noting: “I want people to taste it and not prejudge. It’s a Fuente cigar with our signature style, but it has a deep, earthy twist.”

Tickets for the exclusive Miami event are limited to 150 and priced at $800 each. Attendees will receive a Fuente Fuente OpusX Society cigar, a ceramic ashtray, a carbon fiber cigar case, two premium Arturo Fuente cigars, and a bottle of ultra-premium Dominican rum. Guests can also purchase a box of the new cigars and have it signed.

“This has been a long process,” Iriarte said in a press release. “We’ve aimed to elevate the OpusX brand to the highest level through accessories and collaborations.”

While $90 is too much, Opus X are going to rise in value given the market and where Habanos is heading. The quality is exceptional, I’ll take a well aged Opus most days over a well aged CoRo, especially at the box level. One or two of the Cohiba will probably hit exceptional highs but over the whole box you’ll get more enjoyment from the Opus (although the flavor profiles in the main opus lines are quite different from Cohiba). Fuente’s QC isn’t always up to snuff by NC standards in my experience, but construction on Opus is typically flawless.

When Opus X came out in mid 1990s they were unique and very good.  They are still decent IMHO, but of course they overproduced and ruined the quality over time.
